I have now seen the game and I have to agree with all the posters before me that sang Robbo's praise. He made an impact in the first quarter where the game was still in the balance, before it blew out completely. I think that he was quieter towards the end of the game. But the forward pressure this boy placed on his opponent and basically any opposition player anywhere near him was great. I have not seen that for a long time at Carlton. I am sure that he will get a nod soon enough if he keeps going at that pace.

Rich was good, but I think Robbo was better. Fortunately, the rising star is not won on one round. I am sure that with an injury free season, our boy will be in contention for the ultimate prize come season's end... Just like the blues.

Since 2000, only three players have won the Rising Star that were not pick 7 or higher. Sam Mitchell (pick #36), Jared Rivers (pick #26) and Danyle Pearce (Rookie pick #16). If Mitch does go on to have a great season, and win, he'll be the lowest picked player since Adam Goodes in 1999 (pick #43).

It's against the odds, but would justify Carlton's incredulousness as Mitch being available at 40.

Don't wanna be pedantic, but I reckon Rookie draft pick #16 trumps Goodes Ntional Draft pick 43

80 odd National Draft Picks, Then 7 or 8 pre-season picks, Then comes 40 odd Rookies picks.

I don't care if Robbo doesn't win the Rising Star, to be honest. We all know it's nothing more than a popularity contest, rather than a genuine award based on talent.

We know he's good. His debut was nothing short of amazing. The best thing is, he is only going to get better.

Who cares what some dills think?

I might incur the wrath of Mr. Cazz here - but the NAB/NORICH Rising Star Award is nothing more than a validation process for the AFL Junior Pathway Program - to make the recruiters and Kevin Sheahan look good.

Its not a genuine Rookie of the Year Award - and to include 2nd year players as long as they have played less than 10 games is ridiculous.

I love Woody and think he is going to be a star, but Rich deserved the nomination. He starred in the seond half for the Brions when they won the game. He was instrumental in getting the ball out at cente bounces and other stoppages right through the seond half of that game. It was very much an inside game which is even more amazing from someone of his age. Tough as nails, smart and skilled to boot.

Woody will be get his chance this year.

Lets watch Rich live on Sat nite. He may actually impress us all!

We were very fortunate to pick Robbo at pick 40.

Didn't see Rich but heard he set up numerous goals.

Robbo was good but had only 13 touces and 2 of his goals came from 50m penalties. Best part of his game was his chasing/tackling/pressure, while while we cannot underestimate that, I nonetheless suspect Rich showed more polish and probably deserved the nod.

Robbo will get one very soon.

Daniel Rich is a fine player with a nice left foot kick which always stands out...be a few recruiters who might have passed over Rich not sleeping so well. I'd rather have Robbo any day though, the lad is a fantastic competitor and great value for the club.
Robbo will win a nomination, but for reasons Agros suggested might not win the overall award...but he will drinking out of a
premiership cup sooner than Daniel Rich .
