Setanta was lucky to survive last year's cut. He will be gone by the end of the year.

Oh, the game was officiated by the AFL's umpires. So they do have jurisdiction. These sort of things happen all the time. However, it was a low blow. He is not a very good footballer. That is the main point.

No mention in today's Age about any aspect of yesterday's intra club match other than Carlos/Cloke incident. I actually didn't have a problem with the overall content of the two articles featured (even CW's), but it makes me laugh that the overall message from the media is "disasterous day for Carlton". What rubbish. Two blokes had a scrap and one of them (a fringe player, and one we already knew was battling some personal issues) went a bit overboard.

What about all the exciting young talent on display yesterday (Gibbs, Murphy, Kreuzer, Grigg, Bower, Robbo)?! Carrots' injury was a shame, but he'll be back running within a fortnight, and he's arguably no certainty to be in our best 22 this year anyway. Essendon*'s news from yesterday was much worse than ours...

QFT. However the good news out of the intra-club (like Robinson) slipping under the radar is not necessarily a bad thing.

Sounds like this thread but with sources...

too you and everyone else who is a little slow on this, the umpires state at the start of the game that all rules apply including reporting, this is not the first time a player has been reported in a intraclub

You never know that the match review tribunal will do, but Carlos could be looking at about 6 weeks. Followed by at least a month in the VFL, that would mean we'd be basically a player down for the 1st half of the season already.

P.S. KK - you're obviously not a fan of Carlos, but your signature is pretty nasty.

Remember Travis Cloke went completely nuts at Setanta last year.

Wrong on two counts

1. It was a intra club match not training.

2. It does come under AFL Jurisdiction

Just like those calling for Setanta's head people keep making uninformed decisions.

The AFL sanction all of these matches - there was an offical umpire in attendance and they are instructed to treat these games as per normal - therefore if something like this happens it will be investigated.

For the record I hold a current level 2 coaching accreditation and have been attending meeting with the AFL, umpires etc for years. They are very clear in their stance that umpires need match practive to and that what would be the point if they arnt doing exactly what will be required of them when premership points are up for grabs.

He hit Cloke hard in the face, and Cloke fell to the ground as a result completely absent of his senses other than feel. He couldn't defend himself by using sight, sound, voice or smell could he? He was only feeling pain, and as such was beaten senseless. Kicking someone in that state is a very low act.

This will be a distant memory come round 1.

O'hAilpin will be very lucky to ever wear the navy blue jumper again unfortunately.

I don't doubt Cloke is no angel, but seems quite clear now Setanta has some pretty serious issues himself, and kicking someone when they're down is a bad sign of one's mental place. Latent anger.

Time will tell with Setanta, but given he has issues and is not a walk-up start to the 22, I reckon he'll be 50/50 to be sacked (if the club can do that of course).

Still no comment on Cousins, Polak and Ben Holland.

There are more important Carlton issues at hand to write about...

I don't know why Wilson just doesn't write her Carlton articles on BigFooty...

More people might read them if she did.

I thought her article was balanced and shed some light on Setanta's issues. Do you expect her to name her sources?
