Looked like a 'well you wanted to rumble, get up and lets finish it' type of poke to me. Probably didn't realise how well he had connected with the left.

I wish Santanta was available for round 1. Richmond would be crapping their pants and wondering if he did that to his own team mates then what would he do to them.

I think it is great and this is normal. Usually there are no cameras. You would be amazed what fisty cuffs occur inside the rooms. These guys are pumped, primed and have huge egos.

As Kade Simpson said, leave that crap for the boxing ring. Simpson is a smart fella. Others aren't.

Was awesome to see the leadership from young Grigg. Looked like he told him what for in no uncertain terms.

After 14 pages - you were the last person I planned to quote KK, and then you pulled this one out. As a coach and player of many teams IMO it's the fact that he did something like this to his team mate, not the severity of it, which will influence whether he has a future in the top team.

I love Setanta, but if he was playing in my teams - he'd be busted to the magoos with very slim chance of coming back up, and none for a defined period.
Very disappointing.

I feel utterly validated

See, among all the crap, I do post some sensible stuff occasionally (Is that a blue moon I see?)

Judd, Fevola, Gibbs, Murphy, Carrazzo, Fisher and Stevens will give him a second chance I am predicting. If he will ever play again will be up to Ratten. At this stage the odds don't look good. Incredible how a career can evaporate in a moment of madness like that.

yeah, of course they would be crapping themselves, he would do his usual pre-match bumping and then nothing else for the remainder - ask Fraser Gherig, he bitch slapped Setanta who was so shocked he forgot to show us all what a tough guy he is

Carlos stuffed up, but the amount of coverage this has generated is completely disproportionate. Footy starved public + anti-Carlton story + sensational/violent footage = leading headline on Channel 9 news, cover of MX, prominent on Herald-Sun and Age websites, SEN talkback etc.

Honestly, you'd think 2 players had never had a dust up at an intra club match before. And it's not like the 2 players involved are even high profile players!

I don't like what Carlos did (and the club's response has been entirely appropriate IMO), particularly the kick, but I actually feel sorry for him.

That might all be true, I don't disagree. But the photos and the footage have elevated the interest in it. Without this it would be another 5 minute story that dies a quick death.

I am not a member of the pro-Carlos or anti-Carlos camp (he does divide supporters). I would sit him about 25-30 on our playing list and expect him to play games this year. Maybe he won't now.

Face it, if it was anyone else it would still be reported and newsworthy. If it was another club we'd think it was great - particularly the Bombers or Pies. Let alone Cousins and Richmond.

It's a story. It will be big for a couple of days and then forgotten (hopefully if the AFL investigate and make their decision soon to help with this). Carlos won't play for quite a while and based on what I see, he probably doesn't deserve to.

The question will be - will he play again?

Sack him and make sure he is deported.

I'm not to sure how it works but can an Australian be deported from Australia.

Shouldn't have done it, played into Ratts hands, and it wasnt a kick, it was just a foot in the ass as a reminder not to mess with him.

Still, should have left it at the punch.

I reckon the toe poke was a "Shit, what I've done!" toe poke to see if Cloke was responsive and conscious.

The toe poke didn't look malicious...

Setanta knew what he did was wrong straight away, but walked away like a weak bastard who king hits a guy from behind before during a runner.

Knew he had done the wrong thing.

Carlos didn't even go Gehrig who was slapping him before a game.

Cloke copped a roundhouse swing in the throat and hit his head on the ground.

It wasn't a patch on Hall's deliberate swing at Staker which connected flush.

Something must have snapped for Carlos to lash out like that. :?

It shouldn't be a problem if Cloke and his Carlton teammates forgive him and accept an apology.

I'd be more ropeable if a leader at the club lied and asked me to take the blame for something I didn't do...

Just so he could get off scott free...

Its unfortunate...
It should never have happened.

It does happen.

Neither the punches or the kick were too hard.
Setanta has not looked relaxed for over a year and it just seems like he is not ok atm.
There is no way he should be sacked!.... he still has a lot to prove till the end of the season./

The club must do what it can to get his head back to a good place .

This babyish cry to sack Setanta by some in here is laughable.

Setanta has a responsibility to get himself into a situation to gain acceoptance in the locker room
The club has a responsibility to help him get to that position

Fancy a guy like kingkena.. talking about what Gehrig slapping Setanta and what that actually meant to Setanta...

Actually should be said... full marks to Cloke with the way he handled it.

And the real downside is people focussing on the incident and not the REAL story...

The preformance of Robinson....

... and Murph n Gibbs...

No difference to the Hall incident? You're kidding right? Carlos whacked him deliberately, not once but TWICE, then kicked him while he was on the ground.

He hit Cloke hard in the face, and Cloke fell to the ground as a result completely absent of his senses other than feel. He couldn't defend himself by using sight, sound, voice or smell could he? He was only feeling pain, and as such was beaten senseless. Kicking someone in that state is a very low act.

By taking the contact on the nose? :?

I don't know how else you could defend yourself using a sense of smell to block a swing. :?

Verbs would be saying what a wonderful character Setanta is if we swapped Carlos for Cousins, the swing for drug abuse and Cloke for the West Coast Eagles football club.
