Eddie Betts might be a good match up if one of those small forwards gets on top. His pressure is second to none and rebound skills would be handy as well.

Wouldn't be a long-term plan, but would cause a reaction from the NM box... can go either way from there. If we win the next head-to-head, then unleash Eddie up forward.

thats a brilliant call, wouldn't see that coming would they. and it's hard to argue, betts has great disposal, rarely goes to ground in a contest, and he's got the best defensive pressure in the team. also a strong tackler and a decent over head mark when you think about it.

it's just he is so valuable up the other end.

North Melbourne decided against risking key forward Nathan Thompson and ruckman Hamish McIntosh for Sunday's important AFL clash with Carlton.

Thompson was left out of the squad for the Telstra Dome match after injuring his ankle early in last Sunday's win over the Western Bulldogs.

The `Roos had also been toying with bringing McIntosh straight back into the side after seven games out with a knee injury, with coach Dean Laidley saying earlier in the day he was keen to include him.

The coach was confident the `Roos had enough quality talls without the injured pair, noting developing ruckman Todd Goldstein and utility Leigh Brown had "been doing good things in the VFL".
