If it's a massive stack of people who plan to run on the ground - then hells yes, I will.


If/when Franklin kicks the ton I'll run onto the ground then as well... if not only to hip and shoulder a couple of Hawks supporters... (joking!)





How many times in the rest of your life will you get the opportunity to run onto the ground when someone in your team kicks a ton?

I don't understand the whole thing. What a stupid tradition. Why would you want to run onto the ground? Fans and players should remain separate.

..stupid stupid tradition, last time it happened the saints were all over port? from memory and when the caveman kicked his tonne during the finals it broke the saints dominance over port? with the drawn out interruption.. ..they lost by memory.. ..stupid selfish fans, plenty of opportunity to congratulate the player at a later time..

Umm... it's not following the crowd. I'd rather not face a $5,000 fine by being one of three people that ran onto the ground. If a large throng rush on - the chances to get caught are minimal.



I thought my logic in my post was common-sense... I assumed you'd get it, obviously you didn't.

I believe it's one of the last remaining decent traditions of football, so many harmless traditions have gone by the wayside.

My kids will never be able to run out onto the G to kick the footy after the game due to public liability and stupid political correctness. If you disagree with running onto the ground for the ton you'd probably champion this move as well.

Are there any precedents that would justify banning running out onto the ground for the ton? Did Gehrig get smashed?! Did Lloyd get smashed?!? Were spectators trampled??

If it'll upset Jabba and his maes then I'll be all over the ground....taking grabs over kids, hip and shouldering opposition players....whatever will upset him the most!

Many, many years ago (either '88 or '89) Jason Dunstall slotted his 100th goal of the year out at Waverley. Hundreds upon hundreds of people flooded one end of the ground...a mate and I who went along to the footy for the sake of going to the footy jumped the fence, sherrin in hand...

...and sprinted for the other end of the ground which was vacant aside from a couple of Hawk defenders in Langford and Mew. We would have played kick-to-kick for a good 15-20 minutes before being told to get off the ground in no uncertain terms by Peter Curran...(we responded by calling him a wanker and gesturing as such).

I have fond memories of picking the ball up about 45 metres out - baulking Scott Maginness and pinpointing a beautiful pass lace out to Dave who had lead brilliantly in behind Chris Mew. Ahhh - the memories - I wouldn't give up growing up in the 80's for anything.

A bit off topic, but he was a substitute teacher at my school (Doncaster East High) about 17 years ago when I was in Year 9. He was a wanker. A bit up himself.

While i understand fans wanting to share a great moment when and if fev does kick his ton and run on to the ground etc

but i have to say this while it will offend and people may see me as a prune or a politically correct git.

Think about it people if we make the eight and have a finals chance come round 22 when fev will possibly kick his ton

do any of you guys want to risk our team of injury due to a crowd of people stampeding accross the mcg or telstra dome and maybe putting the like of our big name players judd fevola murphy gibbs etc on the injury list when fev does put it through the sticks...

I know i would much happier to sit back with my grandmother kntting the navy blues socks and cheering fev from the sidelines


just think in 3 games times and fev is looking to kick his ton it is going to be a big crowd and just think half of our supporters run on to the ground and carlton players had no chance of avoiding the crowd and suffered injury


Just another thing

do you want to be one of the people who may have been a part of injuring one of our players and possibly our chance of making the finals

our next 3 games are very important to us and we need to win the next 2 games and possibly against the hawks to make the finals

I can now i will be extremely upset if crowd that runs onto the ground and injures a player i will not be blaming just the individual that injured our players but i will be blaming every single person that enters the ground

Think about it people

its not that i dont want to break tradition i just think it is coming to a crucial part of the footy season for us and if injury iccured due to crowds invading the pitch it could blow our chances of making finals

I have great memories of running on the grounds after wins, I would have loved to have experienced the joy of running on for 100 goals also, the problem is that back then people were on and then straight off, now we would have heaps of people that probably don't support either team running out to be flower.

but wouldnt you consider this game to be a very crucial moment for blues as we may need all our players to beat the hawks and to make the finals..

you wouldnt want anyone injured coming out of that game unnecessarily would you....

Fair enough sentiment - but again, where are the precedents?

I know that it possibly *could* happen - but then we may as well ban punters from doing the coin toss before the game, because they *could* possibly slip up in the centre square and sue the AFL.

I know there is a difference in the examples - but hopefully you get my point. People have run out onto the ground just to celebrate with their team, it hasn't been an issue in the past - but in a world of cotton wool and public liability organisations like the AFL will do anything to over-sanitise to keep their insurance premiums down... and I think it's bullshit.

I'll run out with you Sparky.
