He will need to get the team in the top 8 next year. Besides Geelong, Hawthorn and to a lesser extent the Bulldogs, with natural improvement and Judd having a full pre season under his belt no other team should be above us.
The pressure will be on to deliver.

That's if you only count wins based of talent. Unfortunatly there is allot more to winning games than having the top talent at your disposal, just look at St Kilda.

I don't expect to finish top 4 next year, but I do expect that we will make finals under our own achievements without relying on other teams around us to faulter. And to win games against teams that have had the wood on us over the last 7 years (sydney, Aints, Adelaide, North, Lions).

If Ratts can achieve this then I believe that he is worthy of a new contract, but if we make no improvement next year then it's time to chase a well respected coach in the right mould for the team, if we can't get one then another short term contract for Ratts. Lets not make change for change sake.

We will be in the 8 next year.

I am totally sure of that.

I know it is an 'if' but... we could have made it this year 'if' we did'nt give the comp a head start and we had beaten a few teams that we decided to kick a million IMPORTANT points against (i.e: Adelaide, Sydney and the 1st Bombers game).

Ratts has us on the right track and the boys will be Cherry ripe to have a crack in 2009.

2009 the year of the Carlton GEL!

6th position in the Home and Away.

Fev to kick 80 but more importantly Betts 50, Kruezer 40, Walker 40 and Gibbins a cool 25.

Gibbs, Murph and Judd to pole against each other in the Charlie.

Jamison All Australian defender.

AND.......a prelim final AT LEAST!

Go you BLUEBAGGERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

More to the point, what are the contracts of Riley, Crosisca, Monty, Teague, Lappin?

Need to bring in some others especially a development specialist!

I heard a rumour that Lappin might be in a bit of danger cause instead of teaching the kids he tends to just show off. :?
Anyone else hear about that???.....or is that just my imagination....

I think the only criticism of Ratts coaching is the lack of a game plan for the forwards and his slowness to change the team around. We tend to let the opposition dictate the game early on and then react to them and come home strongly.

Ratts has changed our game style and the players love him but IMO tactically he has been shown up. We have been beaten twice by teams using the same tactics in their wins.

However it's his first year in the job and I'm sure he will seek advice and review his own performance with the honesty and diligence he applied to his football. It's an apprenticeship and he has just started. Next year and our first few games will tell us if the game plan and team structure style has changed.
