But surely the cab rank rule for barristers applies does it not?

CC Can you explain to me what the "cab rank rule" is?

The 'cab rank' rule meant that Barristers had to take briefs, regardless of the client, when they were next off the rank. It was a rule created to ensure people received the best possible advocacy, regardless of their financial circumstances.

Close, but not quite Doully. The rule meant that barristers had to take on a client who was willing to pay their usual fees when they weren't otherwise engaged. It wasn't meant to help poor clients - it was meant to prevent barristers turning their backs on unpopular litigants. Julian Knight, the paedophile Ferguson in Qld, Muslims accused of terrorism aren't necessarily top of the pops.

I doubt if many defendants in assault cases in the magistrates' courts could get Richter to represent them for $500 a day.

I stand (or rather sit) corrected.

now that pratt is not officially involved with the club, does this mean he is allowed to pay our players by saying they are employed at visy without that money being counted toward the salary cap?

i know it won't happen but it's just been playing on mind for a while.

Judd is employed by VISY. Players in the past have been employed by VISY. This is not a problem. Exactly the same if they are employed by FOX (Lloyd), Nine (Buckley), (Essendon* Website) Hird .

You just can't give cash to players that has coem from the club and disguised as some other payment. Judd's employent at VISY is legitamate and it is setting him up with a business career after footy.

http://business.watoday.com.au/business/qantas-exec-jailed-on-pricefixing-charges-20080729-3ml3.html

Quote:
Qantas executive Bruce McCaffrey has been sentenced to six months in a US federal prison, although the judge deciding his fate showed the ailing 65-year-old some mercy.

The sentence was two months shorter than expected for McCaffrey's role in a global air cargo price-fixing scam. He was also fined $US20,000 ($21,000).

Who is sponsored by QANTAS? Surely bringing the game into disrepute?

Judge John Bates, in the US District Court in Washington DC, ruled McCaffrey deserved the lesser sentence as a reward for acting as a key prosecution witness.

We wait with bated breath for Graeme Samuel to press for jail penalties for the AMCOR stool pidgeons who assisted the ACCC with their investigations.

If the supposed class action takes effect against Visy, would Amcor also have a case to answer ?
Or does Samuel's amnesty to Amcor cover that as well ?

Fahour looks more likely as a possible replacement for Pratt, now that he seems to have missed out on the top job at NAB

Ahmed Fahour would, at the minute, have a LOT of ground to make up if he wants to become el presidente of our club.
