Of course Garry Lyon is going to talk up Fev and get on his good side, he wants him to come on the footy show

I don't really think Lyon would give a Rats arse about Fev being on the footy show- If he was hinted Fev go to the PSD- it would be more to the fact that Melbourne have first pick

As much as Fev gets a hard time from the umps, this is still not a good look and is costing us.

Unfortunately Fevola makes himself an easy target for these and the umpires just enjoy sticking it up him and for the likes of Chamberlain it puts them right in the centre of the spotlight.

If the Umpires really wanted to do their job properly and genuinely call it as they saw it  - they would give Fevola maybe at least 1 each of the following free kicks in a game (hands in the back and chopping of the arms) - otherwise these orange/yellow/red maggots, Jeff Gieschen and Kevin Bartlett are really just kidding themselves.

My thinking is that by putting off Fev's contract talks until the season is over is only going to cost us more in the end. It now gives the other clubs 6 weeks to adjust their lists and salary cap to be able to fit him in. What if he kicks 90 goals? He will be worth more and if 10 clubs are suddenly chasing him we will have to pay more to keep him. The channel 7 news last night said that the difference between the two is $200,000 over 3 years, after tax it means that $100,000 in total is stopping him from signing. Swanny has not had a good week (Nick Davis comment) and I hope we not made a huge mistake..

Maybe Swann and Icke want there to be an issue with $200k. Maybe they're looking for an excuse to get him to want to move on. That would mean he'll chose a club that will pay his price and offer us close to what we want.

So just say the Ducks are prepared to trade and pay him the $$. We say "okay, here's the deal, we're happy, you're happy, off you go"

If they come back with a Davis and pick 42 offer and that's the only offer we get, we pay the extra $200 sign him up for 3 and move on.

However you look at it, we're in a good spot.

WIN/WIN!!

Maybe, but there is always the draft for him to go into. If Sydney do want him he can enter the national draft with a price and get taken with their first pick, probably around 12-13. Other clubs will take kids first so he could well slip through to them. I am just thinking that for such a small amount of money that Fev doesnt want to stay.

That'll never happen Kezz, forget that scenario. Even if he did go into the PSD he'd never make it to pick 12.........never.

It's a good trade or it's nothing.

I am not talking about the pre season I mean the national draft, new rules this year. I hope it doesnt happen but if he does get traded we are not going to his true worth in return,

IRC you cannot put a price on your head for the National Draft, only the PSD

Are you sure about that, didnt David Spriggs do that several years ago when we were going to draft him and he went to Sydney instead. I think you can put a price on your head in the national draft.

If that's true kezza, then the pink ducks would be insane to use their first pick to get Fev when they will have limited opportunities over the next few drafts for top end talent.

I reckon now they have told talks are on the back burner till end of season and basically have turned the media away chasing some other poor footballer

is between now and end of season to actually come to an agreement for fev to sign and then announce the descion after season end

both parties have put the media off the trail now

the contract has nothing to do with anyone other then the club, fev and fevs management... so why not keep the talks just between themselves and out of media limelight

sure there are risks of it leaking to the media but worth the risk i reckon

You dont think that Fev is worth a first round draft pick?

For what it's worth Oz, I think you're spot on with your assessment of these proceedings, or should I say non-proceedings.

Both parties can now go about negotiations in private & announce the deal at their convenience.

Good point....Yes, he's worth a top 10 pick. If they're happy to use their 1st pick to select Fev, why wouldn't they just trade it to us and be sure they get their man rather than risk him being snapped up by on of 12 other clubs?

It's all verey interesting, but there are only 2 scenarios here;
1. He signs
2. We trade for a good return.

I'm in the #2 camp.
