Setanta does a job for us no one else can do.

He has a height and reach advantage over Waite, where asWaite is a better reader of the game. They are not the same type of player though.

I think we should look at Setanta with a 'glass half full' view and consider what he brings to the table, not just look at the few errors he makes. All players make errors.

Setanta doesn't make more than others do, he just scrutinised because of the baggage that comes with this not being his native game. That argument is a load of rubbish. he's been in the system for 5 years. He knows what he needs to know and his execution is good as is his shepherding and team oriented efforts, which are worthy of admiration not ignorance.

Setanta imo was fine yesterday. He belongs. It's up to others to displace him. He's 199cm tall, and he aint going to get shorter. You can't compare him to Jamo, Thornton, Bower, Waite (all around the same height); he has a different role to play for us.

Someone mentioned the word 'insurance' in the same breath as Setanta. We all need insurance.

As per most of the other messages for PROs;

GIBBS, got his chance for an extended run in the guts and made it happen. There's going to be a frightening rotation through the middle in a year or two.

KROOZ, when you consider what he's done in 12 games or so compared to the usual development of a big man... wow. Does the right thing every time.

WIGGO - he's earned his spot in this team. Reckon my loudest roars yesterday were his two grabs. Couldn't be happier for the Chief, can't wait for his 100th.

STEVO - as per others. He stood up massively against the Eagles when they were coming at us, he was better yesterday when the game had to be won. Say what you want about him, he's played a huge part in at least two wins for us this year and he's just about our best user of the pill.

Big pro was the streams of Richmond fans leaving after Betts' goal. Half the crowd cleared out in 3 minutes. Fantastic.

Biggest Pro - The "Ins' for the St Kilda match.

CONS

MURPH - Murph needs to get back to basics. Couple of times yesterday he didn't take the first option and the team paid for it. He's good, but the way he's playing at the moment he thinks he's Gary Ablett or something. Keep It Simple Murph. Desperately needs to get consistent with his disposal - he won't get to the next level until he does.

CARROTS - His first half disposal, even by his standards, was deplorable. Picked up after then, but where is the sustained improvement? When he gets a big job he's great, but like Murph he needs to put some time into this.

i thought his last quarter was great and was happy for him.

Has he done enough?? i don't think so. He was a early draft pick, been in the system a long time now and he needs to deliver what we saw yesterday more often.

To think four of our best 22 in Juddy, Walks, Bower and Hadley missing from that line up suddenly we have players fighting for there position in the side which can only be healthy for the resurgence of the mighty CFC

CON:
* Knowing I was going to miss most of the game because I was on a plane moving to Perth, but hoping to catch the last quarter
* Qantas delays which had us leaving at 2.15pm so no chance to watch any of it
* Getting distracted by the kids as the Captain called out the result, with me only hearing "...Richmond, 118 to 88" and promptly shitting myself
* NONE of the pre-arranged text messages with the result and best players being there when the phone gets turned on as we land.

PRO:
* When getting off the plane, see a guy at Perth Airport in a Carlton shirt and I ask "So did we win?" And the response "Bloody Oath we did, by 5 goals".

PROS:-

He put his body on the line on at least 5 occasions and i would never have previously expect him to do such things, mainly cause he's never done them before.
Exactly what i was talking about last weekend. If he wants to be a leader, he needs to show some. And he certainly did that today.

Again.....take this for what it is....... a NON-STEVENS FAN giving credit to where credit is due.... brilliant game and easilly best on ground.

GIBBS -
Jesus. How good is this kid. I never have to worry when the ball is in his hands. Just brilliant. Nathan Buckley-esque. Wow. Great game.

FEVOLA -
Did you see him giving it to the Richmond fans? haha. Brilliant.
What was even better was them making up towards the end of the game......... good sportsmanship.

GRIGG -
Good game from an improving player.

KREUZERS CHASE -
This kid is doing stuff that ruckman don't usually do. Top stuff.

WIGGENS -
Has heart this kid. cops alot, but boy he has heart!

CONS:-

The Use of SETANTA. -
Not sure what we're doing with him and i reckon he's confused as to what his role is. Starts at full-back, then sits on the bench for half of the 2nd qtr, then goes forward, then creates himself some space but nobody wants to kick to him, then goes back again. FFS just leave him as Fullback!

Kick-ins -
Bunching up in the centre just pushes us wide which then forces either a turnover or out-of-bounds. Try something new.

Russell -
Looked dis-interested.That kick into the man on the mark was poor.

Fisher -
Was reading the game report on sportal.com and they listed him in the best????? :? WTF? He was awfull. Very dissapointed with his game so far this year.

Decision Making (of lack there of) -
FOR CHRIST SAKE, MAKE A DECISION. Far to often i see us just hold the ball up forcing teams to then get numbers back. Just get rid of the ball.

Interesting to see that for the first 3 qtrs, we tend to go wide, then for the last qtr, we go through the centre. Tactic by ratts?

Again. Special mention of Stevens again. Just brilliant. I'm not asking him to lay 10 tackles every game. But the way he put his body on the line today lifted the entire team and got us over the line. That's what i expect from a leader.

Your joking about Fisher aren't you, were you at the game? I thought it was his best game for a while. The one handed pick up and pass to Stevens for a goal in the 3rd quater was all class. Left foot 40m pass to Fev for another goal was also good. Had an equall game high 5 scores assits, easily in the best this week.

Finally got to watch it today and I wouldn't list JR or Setanta as a con....

No........ i'm not joking.

Over half of his dissposals were ineffective and 1 of his two goals was a gimmie from Stevens doing all the hard work.

One handed pick up was great, but he needs to do alot more than that.

Do you know what JR's role in the team is?? He is not getting heaps of possessions as he is playing more of a tagging role.

To the supporters who believe that no player who wares the Carlton jumper should be anything less then perfect in all things they do when they step over the white line to play football - my considered response is you guys are on the wrong blog site. You should be bitching on the Fantasy Football site.

As far as I am aware all players are human and all humans make mistakes - even MELVEY makes mistakes. He is therefore human - it’s a pity he can't share this level of compassion with the team he "supports".

if we did a word count since September 2007 on this website (and this can be done) for all the bitching at one player - no not Russell, lets say Wiggins - and compare what they have actually done in the games against Collingwood and Richmond in the part few weeks - then to me its all more than balanced. I want Wiggins to play for as long as his form justifies his inclusion on the team and it sure does now.

I suspect the reason there is so much animosity against him is his effort on the ground (100%) and the fact that he is not the most skillful of players. The skill sets of those who blagg him are probably just similar to his. It s a pity they are unable to contribute in the same positive way that Wiggins does with 100% commitment.
