Pratt's legal problems aside, everyone should just get used to increasing critisizm and diatribe against Carlton from all quarters - because it will only get worse.

As we improve, the more sharp and less rational the hatred and jibes will become.

Vocal hatred of all things Carlton is something that is steadily increasing in popularity at the moment.

This wont stop until we win our 17th flag - when it will reach a peak, before dying down - after that, people grow tried of it and understand that they have to accept the reality of our clubs place in the overall scheme of football - and finally shut up...

Everyone should realise that this is a kind of karmic reaction that is going on, a distinctive aura which is part and parcel of our ultimate destiny - - but one that has been helped along by events such as that with our president.

In dealing with this, the disgraced John Elliot can be looked to.

For his many fatal flaws, there is one attribute that Elliot has which is actually quite useful - a hide as thick as that of a Rhinocerous.

Tim Lane lost the plot when he left the ABC and Carlton left PP. Couldn't handle the fact that he'd sold out to commercial interests so he projects his own self-hatred onto the thing that he loves (CFC) for doing what he sees as something similiar. CFC leaves it's spiritual home for financial reasons and Lane leaves his spiritual home at the ABC for the same. The stoush with Eddie over calling Collingwood games was his way of trying to prove to the world (and himself) that he was an "ethical" man. Ever since he's been bitter and just a little twisted and I can't remember an article he's written in the last 5 years that was worth the three minutes it took to read it. Prior to that time he'd been a good solid commentator and journalist. It'd be interesting to see a survey of the number of articles he's written about each club over the last few years. My guess is that Carlton would be ahead by a long, long way.

As for Elliott - it'd be nice to think that he might put the club first and shut the @#$%&! up but I'm over wishing it's going to happen. Most clubs have a resident buffoon or two. It doesn't matter how long it is since they've played the game, been on the board or whatever. These are the guys who just can't shut the @#$%&! up and let their club get on with it. They're the usual suspects the crap end of the media run to when they want to beat up a story.

Of the top of my head here's a few:

Doggies: Aka, Doug Hawkins, Libba
Bombers: Sheedy
Cats: Sam
Hawthorn: Dipper, Don Scott (though he occasionally has a point)
Kangas: Carey
Saints: Grant Thomas
Tiges: Pretty much everyone
Pies: See Tiges

and so on...

There was some profundity about what you're saying, blueman. Well done!

There was some real profundity in what you are saying Blueman!. I'm feeling the hate big time at the moment. It seems that everyone's hating us at the moment. That's why Sunday's defeat hit so hard, because it gives other supporters unreasonable ammunition.

Hardly Elliott's fault - that the media stick a microphone under his nose for a comment.

First rule of journalism 101 (thats journalism 101 (integrity) - not the stuff, Wilson, Smith et al spout) is corroborate your story with credible sources.

Having Elliott comment on Carlton stories is a reflection on the journalist writing the story and the media outlet publishing it, who are pandering to the lowest common demoninators who will lap it up - "bogans and no shows"

I guess we can't expect him to think that through before he goes into the studios at SEN...

It's up to Elliott to shut up and stop putting his foot in it. The club won't hassle him about it because he knows where the bodies are buried.

What business has SEN inviting Elliott into their studios to and then present him as some sort of official spokesperson of the Carlton Football Club - when he is clearly not.

Francis Leach who still tries to masquerade behind some of his previous credentials of the ABC in terms of journalist ethics - should know better.

But wouldn't expect anything better from Kevin Bartlett for a so called "broadcaster" makes a great public servant - KB you should have stayed at Telecom Australia.

Not sure why we a blaming the journos...it's their job to get / create stories.

It's really simple, focus on what we control, not on what we can't. We cannot control journos who (rightly or wrongly) are trying to get stories.

We can control Elliott (well, we should be able to). It's really simple, he has to be told in no uncertain terms (ie next time you open your mouth you will never be invited back) that next time a journo or media outlet approaches him, he says one thing, and one thing only, "I have no comment to make'.

It's really not very difficult.

Unless your ego is half way up your arse and you put yourself before the Club.

People are often influenced by things unseen - and sometimes it doesnt matter what you do about it but people will dislike you.

It will be like this with Carlton from now until we triumph.

Theres absolutely nothing that can be done about it.

In many ways, since they cant be helped to a more reasonable pattern of behaviour, the best thing for the haters really, is for them to be to be antagonised even more.
