This is a pretty big problem IMO. And I also think that it's a hard cycle to break. 6-7 years of losing has firmly entrenched this losing psyche into the playing group and it will take a monumental effort from all involved at the club to turn this around.

Along with others I was astounded when Ian Collins, then president of the club, was quoted in the media as saying something along the lines of the playing list having few A grade players and lots of mediocre players -- or words to that effect. This was coming from the on and off field leader of the club. Then Pagan repeatedly stated in press conferences that 'We know where we're at,' and that we know we haven't got as strong a list as other teams etc etc etc. This commentary from the leaders of the club did nothing but continue the losing mentality for all involved at the club, IMO. Despite what is said behind closed doors to the players, these comments were made in the media and they have more weight because of that.

We've heard Ratts talking about becoming 'arrogant' and getting that Carlton swagger back. To truly do this we need to win games, and to win games we need to have the winning confidence. It's a chicken and egg situation, and it's really hard to swallow as passionate Carlton supporters.

I have posted this somewhere else, but i think it should be presented as its own topic.

I can see what is happening to our team. I believe that 6 years being down the bottom, results of Pagans defunct game plan and old fashioned methods, have contributed to a lot of pain and deep core self esteem issues.

The fact that we've been in front at half time, or 3QT on about 20 occasions in the last 2 and a half years and lost those games is shocking.

I think, its as if we need these guys to be hypnotized and put through to the club psychologists, because as we seen last night, we have the makings of a competitive side, but we are so scarred, from the years of mediocrity that its a big illness of the club that we can't shake off!

I hate to sound to negative here but this is what i really believe and i'm quite worried about it to be honest!

Synbad was right when he said that our players arent drilled, were afraid of losing or winning.. Anyone who watched the first quarter in particular, cant tell me what they saw wasnt rather impressive, i know Stkilda were quite average, but this kind of footy is what we should be expecting of our side..

How many years in a row now have we heard the same old story of not finishing off games??? Last night was propably the most frustrating i have been at a game for years, i was really livid!! flower what the papers say, we can expect more from our team, and i really think we need to get to the core of these SELF ESTEEM ISSUES and this painful LOSING MENTALITY and really try to address it!!

Its time for this to stop!! Listen, 6 or 7 years of this, dont underestimate the wounds this creates to the overall club psyche! The club really needs to get to the bottom off our DEEP CONFIDENCE ISSUES..

Whats the point of stocking up on all this talent, if the talent we have can't finish off the good work. IT'S TIME FOR THE CLUB MENTALITY TO CHANGE!!

I just wanted to know you guys thoughts on this?? I believe it's a problem, and its real!

Psychologists, lol, that's funny it's not like they been rape by someone or beaten up as a child, lost their family or someone. Its football and they paid great, they just not up to it at the moment.

You say they forgotten how to win, that rubbish, they will win but they will lose again maybe the week after or maybe win 2 in a row or more some stage.

Its 2 games in the season, the players wouldn't think they can't win any games, but i could see some not really going hard if their season is over, but not now.

We have had a losing culture for the last 5 years, it will be difficult to break out of considering we're so young. We're in a very sad place at the moment when 40 point losses are considered a good result.

We havent had enough winners around the club....

Winners need to be drafted and nurtured....

Too many players that arent capable of taking their roles by the scruff of the neck...

Judd is a god send....
