So during that debacle of an off-season where Thornton and Russell threatened to leave the club- Polak crossed to Richmond.

Did the previous management take it's eye off the ball yet again?

Were we ever a chance of getting him? Did we even try?

Who would be a better fit in our (lack of) defence? Polak or Thornton?

Best for our defence would be Polak, best player would be Thornton.

Thornton has been value for a rookie pick, Polak for pick 4 or whateva he was has been dissapointing IMHO....I'd take Thornton...

Polak is a mountain of a man who plays loose in defense. He's not a natural footballer, has bad decision making and average disposal. He's a player who needs an example to be set by quality team mates to contribute to an acceptable level, he doesn't lead from the front or lift his team, ever. Carlton should never chase players who aren't going to make a difference, Polak is just another Saddington. There were also serious question marks on his lifestyle.

If you believe the scuttlebutt on this forum, Carlton were chasing Ben Rutten, which is exactly the sort of player they should have been after. Polak is a Richmond selection, who needs Judd when you can get McMahon.

Thornton by a fair margin. He's a better player and we would have had to give up something of value to get Polak.

Happy with T-bird.

Neither are top class defenders in the Glen Jakovich mould, though.

Thornton is a better player under pressure on the last line of defence. I would take Thornton.
