im a huge fan of JR, but that is it with him isnt it?

he has a class about him, but he just doesnt get involved in the game enough :(

if he can, and i hope he can, he will be a gun for us running on the wing

I have heard that Hampson has done a knee and is out for 6 weeks. Hope it's not true

We could be lucky as it only appears to be a thread on BigFooty and no where else!

To all those giving reports and pics thank you very much, it is almost like being there!

From what I have read and seen Betts has improved. I was involved as a coach in the National U18s when Betts played and he was never really mentioned as a possible draft choice. A lot of recruiters thought he was lazy, couldn't find the ball often enough and just didn't have an engine to play in the AFL. Rumors were he was very undisciplined off the field.

There was a reason he was pick up in the PSD.

For me I would play Houlihan as a small forward, we have enough mids and HB's now and he certainly knows where the goals are. He can go in the middle if needed. He will also enjoy it!
With Betts if he doesn't fire he just sits on th bench and wastes a spot! He need to play atleast half the season with the Bullants on the ball and prove himself before he gets another chance.

Based on the reports here is how I think Ratts will go in Rd 1.

B: Armfield Jamison Bower
HB: Scotland Waite Grigg
C: Simpson Judd Stevens
HF: Murphy Hartlett Hadley
F: Edwards Fevola Houlihan
Foll: Cloke Carazzo Murphy
Int: Kruezer Hampson Jackson Browne
Em: Thornton Anderson Pfieffer

This is based on Walker, Fish being injured.
Setanta, Ando, Pfieffer needing more game time.
Balance.
Speed and use of the ball.
Armfield in as we need more mature bodies especially in a game in front of 80 000 when the pressure will be on from the start. May take Brown or Delidio.
I would of normally gone with Setanta to take Richo but seems to be struggling.
Browne will be a star, big game will not worry him, very composed character. Still can't believe we got him so late in draft, people I spoke to ranked him top 20 if not top 10!
Bannister can come in if we decide to tag someone like Foley or even Brown?
Russell, Betts etc needing to prove themselves, we now have some depth where players EARN their spots and not being picked purely on potential.
Thornton, I have no idea whats going on but seems to me to be stale, might need to play up forward for Ants for a few games to see how he goes?

Once again to all who make the effort to write reports thank you and keep it up, it is very much appreciated.

Haven't posted much before but read everyday.

I had to post today because it was my proudest day at the footy.

Not only did i see the great man debut for the Mighty Blues today, but my 2 year old son made his debut as well. He has been a member since he was born.

I thought it would be an early night but the little fella tuffed it out and lasted until the end of the game.

At halfitme we was running along the boundary line telling me Go Blues.

And by halfway through the last 1/4 he was yelling Go Juddy and high fiving the crowd.

It bought a tear to my eye. Let's hope it is but the first of many Navy Blue wins he can share with his old man!!!!!

I love reading posts like this, where a moment from the club, crowd or family generates a first time post from a long time reader.

Thank you! :-D

For mine Browne was great yesterday, yet I'd most certainly have Pfeiffer ahead at this stage, purely on size. Browne has plenty of time, and I have absolutely no doubt in my mind that he will make it. I don't know who'll be replaced for Thornton, but I cannot see him being left out, sorry. Quite possibly you cannot have Judd and Hadley in the same line-up round 1 as both are a little underdone, so that's where Thornton may come in.

Not a bad line up though really, I mean geez, it's leagues ahead of last year.

Murphy HFF and Rover, hope he doesn't get rubbed out. Maybe Pfieffer on HFF with your lineup? :?

Good pick up brewster, Murphy's good but not that good!

Probably put Pfeiffer there but he just seems to be off the radar a bit since his Port game.

No Gibbs in your team? Does he need a run with the VFL or something? :)

Despite popular opinion, I can't see Betts or Thornton being dropped so soon as they appear to get a game whether they deserve it or not. Assuming Murphy plays and the Hampson rumor isn't true, I think this is how it will be. There are two "ifs", being the weather and if Polak doesn't play.

B: Thornton Jamison Bower
HB: Scotland Waite Houlihan
C: Simpson Murphy Stevens
HF: Hadley Hartlett Gibbs
F: Edwards Fevola Betts
Foll: Cloke Judd Carrazzo
Int: Kruezer Hampson Jackson Grigg
Em: Pfieffer Armfield Browne

P.S. If you're playing the SuperCoach game, Grigg might be a cash cow if he continues his rebounding role.

cj 69. I assume that one of your Murphy's is meant to be Gibbs. I had independently penned out my team before I read your post and was surprised that they are almost identical. The only differences were Bannister Russell and Thornton instead of Armfield, Browne and Jackson. I had marginally preferred Bannister and Thornton because of their versatlity, age and body size and Russell because he is ready to go the next step but I see merit in your alternative three. Interesting

Was good to go see, Judd was inspirational, looks to do everything with ease, hopefully this can rub off on the young kids.
Really impressed with the backline yesterday, showed structure, especially Jamo, Waite and Bower.
Edwards and Hartlett showed promise apart from edwards giving up on a chase in the final quarter, needs to rest if he can't put in 110%.
Kreuzer was a sight for sore eyes, this kids gonna be a gun just like we had hoped.
Murph and Gibbs played well.
Fev put in 110%, chasing, tackling, etc.
O'Hailpin weight loss is extremely showing, needs it back to cement a spot in the side I think. Didn't see to much of him.
Betts did little unfortunately.
Would of been good to see Armfield and Pfieffer.
Overall impressed with alot, few things to improve by Rnd 1 but all clubs do, bad luck bout Walks and Hammer, hopefully they can be back out there asap

Pretty similar cj69

Mine is based on practice form, fitness and balance.

B: Bower Jamison Grigg
HB: Thornton Waite Simpson
C: Jackson Scotland Stevens
HF: Houlihan Hartlett Gibbs
F: Edwards Fevola Murphy
Foll: Cloke Judd Carrazzo

Int: Kruezer Hadley Bannister Armfield
Em: Pfeiffer Russell

Those in for Rd1 for me. Scotto, Judd and Carrats in the middle provide some hard grunt, balling winning ability, creativity and experience. Steveo out wide in some space to create with his hard running. Simmo to run and carry off HB. Houls to hit the leads from Fev and Jake.

Grigg, Jacko and Armfield deserve a chance based on pre-season effort and their current footy. Bannister can tag or play back.

Those to miss for me

Setanta appears underdone and needs some more work but if selected could take Bannister's spot.
Betts is struggling
JR is struggling to find the footy
Pfeiffer I just can't find a spot in the 22 infront of the rest. Has done very little wrong.

Regards Cazzesman

I'm with Josh, Pfeiffer ahead of Armfield for me.

And I'm not sure I'd bother with Banno unless we were desperate. Not trying to diss him, I just don't think he will command a spot in 2 years so I'd soone play someone who would. But we are injury ravaged a bit right now.
