She mentioned last night Collingwood and Melbourne etc tanking which is probably a direct response to Carlton fans bagging her thoughout the day.

Yep, she mentioned every circumstance we have discussed int his thread, and even threw in the infamous Freo/Hasleby match for good measure.

Very big of her to say it on 3AW rather than putting it all in the broadsheet... :?

we talked about tanking on here for six months of 2007, and now we're sensitive to a couple of paragraphs on the same topic in a comment piece.

Move on, you're sawing sawdust.

This issue is not about tanking its about the constant denegrating of the Carlton Football Club by the media who use selective and biased choice of facts to promulgate an argument that we are cheats.

Just watched John Anderson on the Back Page on Foxtel, and he too claimed that we deliberately lost games by the end of the season, again without any basis in fact, in comparison to the whole Roos situation. Of course, no need to mention other dodgy events by other clubs. We're nothing but punching bags at the moment.

We are cheats. Got caught. Doing our time and need to restore our reputation with on-ground performance. We're crap on-field and targets off it because of it.

it's no big deal to me. Time will pass and a new target will appear.

So what they're saying is that by playing blokes like;
Russell
Hampson
Jamison
Kennedy
Gibbs
Bower
Grigg
Jackson
Banno
Ackland etc etc

and resting Fev, Fisher, Stevens etc etc due to INJURY - that we were tanking - Guilty as charged!

I will preface this post by saying I haven't read all 4 pages of this thread, so apologies if this has already been mentioned. But I have a question...

Does anyone here actually believe that we tried 100% to win those last 6 games last year?

I know that my preference, given that I did not believe that we would win2 or 3 of the last 6, was to win none and get the priority pick, rather than win one, and miss out. That was my preference, but it was strong enough for me not to go to the last month of games (and I've been going every week for 30 years).

My feeling is very strong that there were powers that be at the Club who either wanted to lose, or wouldn't have been unhappy to lose. Clearly, not winning games wasn't going to harm Ratten's chance of getting the job.

It seems fairly credible to me that the Club was happy to lose, and might have in some way acted towards facilitating that.

Wilson is merely reporting her belief about that. And yes, she has reported alot of negative stuff about Carlton over the last few years, but as anyone who has read these pages in that time knows, there has been plenty to report on (and much of it more 'controversial' than, say, Richmond, hence more focus).

When we get our act together (which we are finally doing), and the negativity disappears from the Club, she will stop reporting on it.

ding ding ding!!!

What got my goat was the fact when referencing tanking she ONLY barreled at Carlton last year rather than Richmond, Collingwood, Hawthorn, Freo, Melbourne etc

On AW last night she said she picked Carlton because we got a priority pick as a result of losing (one way or the other) last year... what about Dale Thomas, Caro? It's lazy, biased journalism - a trap Caro doesn't usually fall into unless she's got an axe to grind against someone or something.

You can bet your left plum no matter what success this current batch of Carlton players achieve, she will be pointing back to this issue, the salary ccapcheating etc etc to taint it. She can't help herself with this club.

What Agro said.
Wilson is the one that is contradictory and pathetic, not the CFC.

Can someone just buy her another lollipop to replace the one that fell in the sand, please?

Oh, hang-on - The Tigers are in the box seat for Naitinui already aren't they?

Caroline thinks we are great. I thought we were just useless but obvisously we have a better side than I thought if old Caz Wilson thinks we laid down.

I remember looking into who / what we played a while ago. Putting aside the whole debate of intent, on the numbers it shows that we didn't play more games from players 19 years old or younger than either of the 2 years before it. We played more games from Under 21's, but that had more to do with our senior rank thinning out.

Did we or didn't we? We'd be mad to think we didn't try, and it sure felt as though that Collingwood game as ours, but does it really matter? Other teams try to take advantage of the system as has been pointed out herein.

And I love the retort that if we did....how bad must Richmond be?

I went to Tassie for a few days and have only just got back - so Caro wrote a scathing article about Carlton. :garthp:

DID WE TANK? ABSOLUTELY.
ARE WE PROUD OF IT? ABSOLUTELY
DO WE WEAR IT AS A BADGE OF HONOUR? ABSOLUTELY
ARE WHINGEMOND JEALOUS? ABSOLUTELY
WOULD WE DO IT AGAIN IF NEED BE? ABSOLUTELY
ARE THE OTHER CLUBS FEELING ANXIOUS ABOUT THE GIANT AWAKENING? ABSOLUTELY?
ARE CARO AND SMITH BITTER, TWISTED AND DELUSIONAL? ABSOLUTELY
WOULD I LOVE THIS WEBSITE TO BE CALLED TANKINGCARLTON.COM JUST FOR A FEW DAYS SO THAT WE CAN RUB EVERONE'S NOSE IN THE DIRT? ABSOLUTELY

Paul Roos has mentioned us in the press re tanking now. I'm amazed that we are being used as the yardstick for tanking. We are the worst performing team since the current 16 team structure began in '97 by a LONG WAY!!! What is this obsession that we could have won games and then just decided not to?? The games we won last year....Rich, Ess, WB and Port. With the exception of the Port game.... the others had great chances to win the game. So we might have missed out on a few as well but 4 wins was more than enough for our efforts last year. This obession with us tanking is a joke and I'm a bit disappointed the club has not come out and made a statement about it!!

Great post Pickle. 11 games over three years. To suggest we were good enough to tank amazes me.

Agree - without a comment from the club this is just going to become the accepted version of events.
