It will happen in 2009 or 2010, whichever is the first draw signed off by Jabba's replacement.

They caved to the Bible-bashers. What a shock.

For what it's worth, I'm a Christian or a 'Bible basher', and I couldn't care less about keeping footy away from Good Friday. Not all who go by the name of Christian care about 'special' days.

THE AFL has decided against playing a match on Good Friday next year and will instead start the 2008 season on the Thursday before Easter.
League chief executive Andrew Demetriou said the AFL Commission decided at a meeting in Melbourne today not to proceed with a Good Friday match.

The idea had been vehemently opposed by church groups, who had been lobbying for the traditional holy day to remain football-free.

"The games we have scheduled on the Thursday night leading into the Easter break in recent years have developed both strong crowds and television audiences, and we will continue that format in 2008," Demetriou said.

Round one will start on Thursday, March 20 - a week earlier - with the grand final scheduled for September 27.

fair dinkum its a bloody disgrace. Half the country isnt even christian.
To most people good friday is the same as the one the week before (except for the holiday 8) ). There is no place for religion in football just the same as in public schools.

In saying that I too am christian and I will be attending church and all that. But to force your beliefs and their consequences upon the public is wrong.

Religion is an individual choice. It's a shame that the AFL commissioners dont see it this way. This is something I would expect from those southern americans evangelists shown in borat! its pretty poor by demetriou

If it was any other club than Carlton, that @#$%&! demetrispew would let them play.

As if the spew, the most amoral vindictive bastard on earth cares about religion. This isn't about religion.

Anyway, hopefully the Blues don't forget good friday and when the turd that is demetrispew fulfills the destiny designated for those on AGRO's hitlist, we will pounce once more.

Within 4-5 years there WILL be footy on good friday (its inevitable), and it better be Carlton playing
