We've been crucified for the past 6 years - so all this will do is ensure it is remembered for the next 100.

the only way that this will be "massive", is if this good friday clash is the opening game of the year. other than that it will just be another big game.

Naah, ANZAC Day will be around for a while to come: it's Australian tradition .. just because there are no WWI vets around any more and there will be no WWII vets around in a few years' time, doesn't mean the day won't exist coz there will always be war

Funny you should say that. The Mayans of Mexican pre-hispanic days used to decapitate the loser of their 'game'.
I think it was to stop tanking for the PP.

Fingers' crossed! Let's hope this gets off the ground for next year. Carlton Vs Richmond on Good Friday. Will be much bigger than Anzac Day I reckon.

This will really rub Eddie McNugget's face in it. :-D

Why do you think it'll be bigger than ANZAC Day? In terms of crowd, hype, standard of game, money made?

ANZAC Day is clearly the 2nd biggest game in the AFL season.

We're not going to get a bigger crowd, we'd be doing extremely well to match the hype, we couldn't beat it, standard of game will depend on where the teams are at that point, given we finished 15th and 16th this season you wouldn't think so. As much as we hate Essendon* and Collingwood they always put on a good game for ANZAC Day. They've made it their own, no one was interested in it until they made it a tradition of their own and now everyone else wants a piece of the pie they built.

Given all the above we're not going to make more money from it (and thats before we donate a share of the money made to charity).....so why would Eddie be envious?

It'll be a great day of our own and well worth going ahead with, but bigger than ANZAC Day?

I agree.... anyone who thinks Good Friday footy will be bigger than ANZAC day has rocks in their heads.

You know why "I reckon" it'll be bigger than the Anzac Day clash? Cos I am a Carlton supporter. I enjoy watching the Bombers Vs Pies Anzac Day clash. But it means nothing to me. Carlton means somthing to me. THAT'S WHY, to ME, it'll be bigger. :-D

wait for the 2008 Good Friday clash to be the ressurection of Lance Whitnall...he'll rise from the ashes, kick 17goals and the masses will bow at his feet.

They caved to the Bible-bashers. What a shock.

Tradition lives on in our society...!!! :-D

Good to see were not getting rid of evcerything weve been doing over the last 100 years.

Good to see families are FORCED to share time together one day a year..Good to see footballers get treated like the rest of us...

Friday night footy... if its a holiday for the rest of us.. why do footballers have to perform for us.????

I really dont get why people get bored one day a year they have to invest in people they care about....

AFL = :garthp:

Ultimately its probably not a big deal, but I guess I must have missed the fact that the AFL is a Christian based organisation.

Bloody oath. That would have been huge for the club. It's only a matter of time before the commission sees sense and football is allowed to be played on Good Friday. I just hope we will be involved in the game.
