The reports have been that the bone graft was very successful and it appears that given the contract extension that the neck has healed well.

The club has shown to be incompetent in the past but I doubt they would be imprudent in this case. I take it as a good sign for Nick

Official news of Steven's re-signing is burind in with this week's team sheet...
http://www.carltonfc.com.au/Default.asp ... wsId=49649

I just hope he continues on with his 2007 form, albeit brief due to his injury, which was much better than his 2006 form.

Really really pleased that he's obviously healthy again - that's the main thing.

3 years (assuming his neck is ok) is fine for Stevens. He's a pro who's got a good 3 - 5 years left in him at the top level. A good sign also for the younger guys - it's as much Nick saying that he's got faith in the club as the club saying they've got faith in him.

One more thing: I don't think it hurts the morale of the group for them to see the club look after a guy severely hurt in the line of duty.

The club's really sticking their neck out with a three year contract, but we have to have complete confidence.

Stevo re-signing sends such a great message to all the unsigned. Call me crazy, but I reckon we're getting together a really sensational group. Does anyone disagree????

..i think it's great news, Stevo's was in great form durin' the wizfiz and first 3 rounds.. ..and that's with the crook neck he had after the nice and neitz crunched him last year, so if he continues with that form it'll be great since i thought he was gonna dominate this year.. ..and theoretically he should be even better since his neck is all cleared up.. ..and with the blues starting pre-season training early this year a'la roo's he'll have plenty of time to catch up on the time he's missed.. ..plus his time in the coaches box this year will hopefully give him better insight..

Thank @#$%&! he didn't play this year or this thread would be 10 pages long saying he's soft and a downhill skier and should be traded.

Who knows game, he could have had a ripper year and we'd be saying he should have got 4 years. He certainly started out that way

3 years is a long time for any player and so much can change in that time - especially when they are getting close to their 30s.

I think stevo will be one player who will enjoy having more developed talent around him. I dont think stevo is a player who is a star in his own right- but could be a piece of a star midfield group.

He is one of those players whose usefulness increases exponentionally when surrounded by other good players, whereas some players remain the same whether or not this is so.

With the massive development of carrots, simpson, walker, murphy this year and jackson, blackwell and benctick to some extent - stevo may have the good players around him he needs to reach his heights.

In respect of making stevo captain, from purely my position, i dont think stevo is the guy. For one, he doesn't go near to putting his body on the line to the extent simmo does, he also can be quite critical of others on the field - ie. telling someone off for missing a goal when he is quite often doing the same.

Simmo still has my vote, but i accept only those in the inner sanctum would know.
