The "process" is over-rated. It didn't deliver StKilda the best coach (twice) If Longmire wasn't the best candidtae for that job , I'll be a monkey's arse

Sydney appointed Roos in a similar situation to us and now have a flag, having said that, I still reckon the players deliver 90% to success while the other 10% is made up of coach and admin.
Ratts is a very lucky boy to get this Carlton side. Not many rookie coaches walk into a list like we've got now.
Dont underestimate the coaches/admin's importance to becoming a premereship contender. Just have a look at Freo and St Blunda for evidence. Both of these teams have lists that look like world beaters on paper yet have delivered nothing.
You need a coaching team that is sharp and able to get the most out of the lists at their disposal and an ability to make smart decisions game day. We have all queried Pagan's decision making the past few years, Ive lost track of the games Ive watch and shook my head in disbelief at the decisions he has made during games. For some reason (probably senility) he kept confusing himself with nostradamus and made what he thought were proactive moves that robbed us a momentum and victories.
A coach must be able to get everyone working together to a common goal whilst also having plan b's c's etc to that everyone is clear to switch to in the event things arnt working.
This isnt the 1980's anymore where a talent team just went out and did their thing - teams today with no direction look like headless chickens running around - just look at how we have played the past few years
