He writes AFL for The Australian.

Nuff said.

Caroline Wilson on 3AW Sun thinks we are interested in Mark Thompson. Not the first time i have heard this but unlikely i would have thought.I must admit to wanting Voss but are very happy with Ratts.

I would be very dissapointed if Ratten were appointed now.

It is extremely important that we pursue the proper process, and examine all options. I accept that Rats would be the front runner, but his audition is incomplete.

No appointments until season's end.

Ratten to talk with Carlton
Quote:
While Ratten, also a candidate for the Melbourne coaching position, is slated to make a presentation to the Demons next week — along with several other assistants and possibly Kevin Sheedy — sources said it was even possible he could be appointed before then.

But the Blues intend to interview Collingwood assistant Guy McKenna and his Bulldogs' counterpart Chris Bond, and follow a due process before any appointment is made, although the job is clearly Ratten's to lose.

Do Carlton need an independent voice to help find a new coach :?:

Perhaps we should hire Voss.

Ex-Blue to aid Bombers
Quote:
Jackson said McKay, who played in Carlton's one-point 1999 preliminary final win over the Bombers, was the club's first choice in its bid to find an independent, strong-willed and experienced, recently retired player to join its four man subcommittee.

Jackson said McKay fitted all criteria, which included the desire for a consultant to have retired within the past five years, to have played more than 200 games and more than a dozen finals, and to have been part of a club's leadership group. McKay also held appeal because he is unaligned to any club at present.

The sight of Carlton's next coach presenting to the melbourne board is off-putting. We need to hurry up and interview Bond and Mckenna. If we want Ratts sign him before he has to give his presentation.

I wouldnt be trying to copy anything that Ray "I love $15.90 all you can eat buffets" Horsborough dreams up

Essendon* have fallen apart as a club...

first they spend the year kidding themeslves that 2006 was an abberation. So they recruit Mal Michael, play all their ageing 'superstars' in a tilt to get Hird a final premiership.

then they decide that they are further away than they think. They see us sack Pagan, and they decide that they want Voss. Did they have a good chat to Voss first? Nope. Did they know how far down the track we were with him anyway? Probably not (I maintain that if Voss chose to coach he would have gone to Carlton rather than Essendon*).

So what happens now? They've hung their legendary coach out to dry. They've turned everything into a circus. They've missed out on an opportunity for a much higher draft pick. Their list gets further and further run down. Their dream coach is sitting in Brisbane, and it seems like they don't even have the currency anymore to lure Harvey away from Fremantle. Joke :-D

Anyway, to turn this into a Carlton post... I maintain that process doesn't matter. We've seen that the players love Ratten. We hear that Pagan himself talked up Ratten's abilities (and whilst Pagan was hopeless with this club, he has been around the game long enough to respect his opinion on such matters). We've seen that there are gameplans and tactics emerging for the first time in what seems like an eternity. Ratten bleeds blue... so waht more do we need? I reckon that there is no need for polygraph tests, etc to tell you that Ratten should get the gig.

And now they've hired one of our boys (Andy Mckay) to find them a coach...u gotta love it..it just keeps getting better and better....

Couldn't have happened to a nicer club.

Have to say, the Essendon* board must have sh!t for brains if they believed Sheedy's rhetoric about Hird, Lucas, Lloyd and Fletcher possibly being able to win another flag if they get Campo and Michael.

Tend to agree..no need to rush into things and be panicked by what other clubs are doing.

Re: Essendon*...they are amusing, they are so used to Sheedy doing everything they dont know what to do without him...

To play devil's advocate, wouldn't it be better for the next senior coach to have as much time to assess our list as possible before trade week and the next draft?

I won't even play devil's advocate here Camelboy,

point out the last premiership coach that came out of a 'thorough' due process? Yeah, maybe West Coast, Sydney, Port, Brisbane lucked onto their coaches... but maybe they just went with good old fashioned gut feel. I don't need a polygraph to tell me that Ratten can coach this club, I just need to see how the boys walk taller when they play under him.

Maybe the club is wanting to coincide the announcement of Ratts with the Ratatouille movie???

I like the idea of a Andy McKay being asked to select the new coach for Essendon*.

Means he can have a hand in picking Guy McKenna or another dud coach and send Essendon* further down the ladder.

:) I too respect Pagan when he agrees with me.
Give Ratts the job already.

As much as I respect Macca for the great player and Carlton man he is, I think it says a lot for the state of the scum's board that they turn to a vet to find themselves a coach. What, that can't decide between a terrier and a labrador??
