In my opinion the reason for embarrasing 100 point losses is a lack of leadership. Someone tough to get in and take control of a game.

Murph and Gibbsy are too young to take on all this responsibility.

Our senior leaders are an embarrassment.

Without it soundlike a knee-jerk reaction we need to 'throw the book' at a proven leader to come and captain the club and absorb some of the pressure for the next 3 years and let Murph develop.

Give me some names.

Jude Bolton ?
Brett Kirk ?

I don't think any player should be able to walk into a club and become captain. They need time to be able to build relationships with the players and earn there respect.

Its better to devlop leadership rather than recruit it. There are leadership programs out there. Grant Thomas was a pioneer in this area. Its certainly worth investing time into it. We have the right characters. Its the clubs job to get the best out of them. To do that you have to put the old guard ie Whitnall, Lappin, on the back bench. St K did it with Harvey and it didnt affcet his play. The youngiuns need to take charge.

Stevens is the natural choice. But we don't know what sort of player he'll be when he comes back.

How about Walker, Murphy, Waite and Billy Bob being co-captains?

Retire Lance at year end.
Make Skinny captain next year for his testimonial year.
If Stevo comes back OK, make him skipper for 2009+ with Tex, Murph and Hershelle his deputies.

We tank for the rest of the year get pick 1 and 3...and use pick 1 and maybe a second rounder in exchange for JUDD...

Imagine Judd, Murph, Walker, Stevens whille rotating Carrazzo, Blackers, Bentick, Gibbs

The thing we need most is a ruckman, not someone who is slightly taller than everyone else in the team.

Walker and Murph show the most leadership out of everyone, I am not sure if thats something we should be happy about. I would have made Tex captain at the start of the year, I like the cut of his jib.

so very true! We remind me of the under 12's team that sends their full forward to do the rucking because he is slightly taller than everyone else.

You seem to be confused.
We're after leadership, not dealership.

Nick Stevens is the obvious choice. At the moment we are playing without a coach and a captain.

Yes .... we definitely need a ruckman (even two) but one or two top defenders wouldn't go astray either.

Leadership has been an issue for us this whole century! I agree time to bite the bullet, if Stevo is clear to play then he is the obvious choice. In the limited games I have seen over the past couple of years his leadership behaviour was more than obvious.
