As an evangelical Christian, I have nothing wrong with people doing things on Good Friday, including footy. Christian doctrine emphasises the power of Christ's sacrifice on the cross EVERY day - Good Friday is simply the day that he was crucified. Yes it is important, but because it is so important, I reflect on the cross every day, not just for 1 day throughout the year.
My main argument against it is that people are less likely to go because they've gone away for the long weekend. Deano, the interstate argument suits people like you and I who might do it, but most Carlton supporters live in Melbourne, that's a cold hard fact and I doubt that just because interstaters could get down there for the game that that would offset the numbers who would not go because they've gone away for the long weekend.
The other thing I'd point out, tubbs, is that in the USA, Good Friday is NOT a public holiday...
that point is moot completly though. if people go away for the weekend then they are doing just that, so the wouldn't be able to see us play if the game was on a friday, saturday sunday or monday.
i dont see all afl games over easter not being played because more people are likley to be away.
i'd be interested to see the average attendances over the easter rounds compared with non easter rounds over the last few years.
i doubt there would be a drop of more than say 10%
if the games a 'big' one then i'm guessing that the current form of the two teams will be more of a factor.
i cant see this game ever getting close to ANZAC day, but you'd imagine it could still get pretty big especially if both clubs peak around the same time.
