I could check the recruitment thread but meh…
What is the go with these NSW scholarships. If we choose to recruit them obviously we get priority but what is the process and rules applying to these kids and what do we give up?

Instead of focusing on Sydney, we should focus on towns just north of the Murray River (huge football communities). Then we can snare a quality player before they become a hit and play for the Murray Bushrangers.

I'm involved in the local football scene up on the border and there are some quality kids around the 14-17 year bracket running around in the Ovens & Murray and Hume leagues and reside in NSW.

Bring back the zones!

Seriously zones should be introduced and all clubs should be allowed to draft 1 or 2 kids from within their zone every year before the f***ing national draft. This way, AFL clubs look after grass roots again and more importantly can build their own.

You can only pick kids from the greater Sydney area, so that would exclude the Border region.

Clubs are allowed to pick 2 a year, AFL gives them the funds, so they are really obliged to use it.

The reason for the scholarships are they are trying to ensure that a good athletic kid does not get poached to Rugby League or Union etc

I am involved in Sydney at an under 12s reps level as coach, and you do hear the kids talking about it, so hopefully the AFL will see the benefits in 5 years time.

Buzz, I am coaching at senior level and am currently working with 3 junior western suburbs clubs to ensure we have an under 18's side next year to ensure the survival of our senior club. Most of the kids at both of these clubs are now AFL kids not league converts as was the case ten years ago. Over the next ten years we should see more Sydney kids being drafted to the AFL as the level of footy continues to improve up here. One of these junior clubs has already produced an current AFL senior player.

Hi Markno3

I know the Westbrook club is producing some Scholarship guys, Ranga just got picked up by Geelong, I have seen him a few times wouldn't mind betting he will eventually get on an AFL list.

Which club are you with?

I'm with Forest on the Northern Beaches, and also look after the Northshore Under 12s this year.

I am with South West Magpies (sorry to say that evil word here guys).

We have been working with Holsworthy Tigers, Bankstown Sports Bombers and Liverpool Eagles Junior sides to ensure that all the kids have a viable option in the area to go to after 16's. At present many kids are lost to the game after these levels due to the small number of under 18 sides in the area. Our club has suffered by not being more proactive about relationships with junior clubs in the past, something we are working hard to rectify. Tonight my whole squad is conducting training with Holsworthy Tigers and next week it will be with Bankstowns kids.

Dylan Addison at the Bulldogs is a product of Bankstowns Juniors.

We have a similiar arrangement with Manly Bombers our kids either go to Manly u/18s or go to Northshore, but agree alot of kids give up after the 16s comp finishes.

It is good that you have set that up, best of luck...and make sure any hidden gems find there way to the might navy blues!!!!!

We lose our last pick in the rookie draft or national draft, depending on which list we allocate them too.

I'm certain I read last year that a young player was picked from the Riverina region. That couldn't be Greater Sydney. :?:

South of the Riverina is Albury then all the way up to Wagga (maybe further).

how old is the kid? 187cm for a 15 year old = very big boy. 187cm 17 y.o. = fairly big boy.

no it is better than that, if he is the best kid in the land, we only have to use our last draft pick to claim him
