Weathering the storm

Quote:
"All I know is I have a contract and I'm here now. If someone doesn't want you, they can let you go. It's funny: I didn't ask to be contracted. They rushed at me to put three years on, which I was happy to accept.

"Twelve months later they were changing their mind. Why were they changing their mind? We'd done exactly what was required, we'd played the young kids. It's amazing how everyone talks about 'the process' and, when you lose, everyone forgets about it.

great article. No fluff, no false positivity, just a great summary of where we've been and where we're going

I remember the same ill founded vindication from Denis in 04.

We've achieved absolutely nothing to date.
How many games have we won?
Has he shown an ability to compete tactically for the first time in 5 years?
Has he learnt how to utilise the bench for reasons other than hiding players?

Until we do, if I was Pagan I'd sit back, shut up and get on with business.

In 04 he never said that the we were on the way up, he pretty much said that they were still a long way short of where the list needs to be...this article is different still in that we are close to being where we need to be to be a genuine contender!!! As far as using the bench to hide players, well he doesnt need to do that anymore does he??? You cant get blood out of a stone mate!!! Give him this year at lest to prove himself I say withough all those flower snide remarks, round 1 hsnt even started for chrissake!!!

The thing is BV, if you criticise him for being too realistic, then there'll be calls from TCers saying 'he's not selling the club well enough - he's damaging the brand' - which is true. How much did Collo and Denis damage the brand - being realistic is fine - but there's a positive way to say it and there's a negative way of saying it and I think he's being realistic here in a positive way.

That said, by being positive you implicitly place expectations on yourself - the upside is, if he fails to produce, the quicker he goes out the door.

In many ways, this is the team and the club Pagan wanted to coach - that he imagined coaching - when he came to Carlton at the end of 2002. The players are, perhaps, younger than he thought they'd be, but they have talent and possibilities.
Great quote and spot on

But how does he know?
Theyre all first second and third year players.
Realistically if they dont develop... they might fall by the wayside...

The problem with Denis is he is yesterdays person.
He had them playing collision football when everyone else was playing possesion football.
He went out and brought an army of hacks to the club..
He did speak about making finals... dont you worry about that... i heard him.
He took away every ounce of decision making abilities the players had and replaced it with his very own robotic program at a time when everyo0ne else was playing tactically on the field.

He burnt alot of players....

Now he has the team???

Well what will he do with 30 kids???? .... Personally i dont want him around them long enough to find out...

Synbad, who would you nominate for Captain and Coach respectively?

Getting rid of Denis tomorrow.. it would be a Mitchell/Ratts coach situation till the end of the year... then id do what RP has been doing and just taking whoever i want...

Captain??? Stevens... if Lance cant even get into a game ...
Lance can be VC of the Bullants...

But i would have had a rotating captaincy for the year... (including Lance if he could make the side) as well as a half a dozen others and Stevens...

All this Lance is going through a rough time bullshit is just that... my understanding is Lance was enjoying the publicity...I know its bizarre .. but its from a super reliable source....

Lance will continue to have a problem getting into games not because of any reason other than the game is not a game that suits Lance and he does not work hard enough to get himself into a position that he can play his best.
Smeone like Lance has to have Setantas attitude to delay the inevitable even by a year... he has to be training all day every day... give up the fatty stuff and work hard...

Lance cant do that.. he is relying on his 'smarts'...(dumb boy)

Really .. Really funny. Lance won the B&F last year ... they say the game is too fast now for a player like him ... so that means the game has changed completely in 6 months ... lol. What a bunch of tossers. I will give a fair and honest opinion of Lance at the end of the season. After all he was the B&F at Carlton last year. Ok Synbad ... Conspiracy theory time ... come on .. u can do it.

So did a couple of thousand supporters who were there for the Fight Back Rally.

If I remember correctly he said...

"I believe we have the list, and the game plan, to be playing in September"

Pity we didn't appoint Wallace. He could have predicted we'd have to wait until 2011 and everybody would have been ecstatic.

Corey McKernon and David Teague do little to reinforce your argument.

I'm confused.

Some of you wanted him to say more last year and the year before.

This interview is about as in-depth as I've seen him in his time with us, and he's certainly expanded upon his cliches enough for them to be genuine answers to his interviewer.

Now you want him to shutup, and you can't even point out a replacement. :?

FFS it's a very positive article talking about our kids, our club, our heritage.

The report is focussed on the kids we all believe in, and want played as much as possible.

That's what the article is about. Why the gloom? Why bring up 2004? Why worry about Pagan? It's Carlton we're interested in and if anyone (Pagan incl) does not serve this club properly in 2007 they're out.

Right now it's not about Pagan.

Pagan will not be around for the next flag; he may not make it to 2008, but who gives a @#$%&! shit about that?

Pagan will not do any damage to the kids we have. The kids are young and will still be young after 2008, if Pagan serve out his contract till then.

The kids are in good hands. Remember?

Do you stop and think about the names we have secured to develop our kids? Do the names Bradley, Ratten, Mitchell, Icke, Ford, Dempsey, Daniher mean anything? Does the name Pratt mean anything? Does the money raised for the Football Dept on Friday mean anything? What has that gt to do with Pagan? Stuff Pagan.

It's not about Pagan, it's about Carlton.

I welcome any positive press, even from Fatprick.

Do you ask yourself if Pratt wants to hear about gloom right now before the bounce of the first ball in 2007? He wants us to be one, with one thing in mind; to bring Carlton back to its former glory, and that's with every Carlton person being welcomed back to a happy and hopeful Carlton family. No mention of Pagan.

Is it gloom Pratt is expecting from supporters? No Mr Cloudy Day!!

Get on your bike and get with the program. I'm sickened by negative bastards before the first round has even started.

Yeah have an opinion. Yeah I know you couldn't give a shit about what people think of your opinions. Well that's good, because I'm not saying this to upset anyone...just asking us to focus on the great things that are happening to our club, what our objectives are, and not to dwell on the past. It's gone!

There's a process of change taking place at Carlton. A process. Pagan will serve his contract....maybe? Great things will continue for this great club. Pagan or no Pagan.

It's not about him, it's about the kids, it's about the club!!

Spruik the positives for 2007, well at least till after the final siren. Look at the Blue Skies...they really are appearing.

GO BLUES.

Possesion football? Football is a bad game to watch if it's baeed on posession, I'll use Hawthorn as the perfect example. When Hawthorn play direct, hard running football they are millionaires and exciting to watch, when they revert to that possession crap you may as wel watch lawn bowls. THe only time i've lost faith in Pagan is when he decided to go down the path of possesion football, whether that was his choice, i highly doubt it.

If you read the Herald Sun today you would read that the Board were given two choices in 2004, hacks or late picks. The rest is history based on the decision the board made.

Do we really want the players who have been on our list to be running the show? They are no longer our our list now for a reason. Ten clubs in Victoria, 10 different game plans and tactics, yet who has won a premiership? Put Pagan into St Kilda and i swear they would of won at least 1 flag,

Yes, he's been telling himself that line for so long he's even believing it himself.

Look at his quote!

Quote:
you can get half a dozen tried players and they will give you an immediate impact...but I tell you in 2 years time there wont be too many left of them. Or you can go with picks 79,80,81,82,83 and 84

What a load of revisionist bullshit!
He stated trading at pick 35!!!!
The previous year we picked up Kade Simpson at 45!!

That quote is a blatant misleading misrepresentation of the facts.
Its intriguing is'nt it?
If Pagan is so comfortable with his deeds, why does he have to blatantly distort the facts to attempt to justify them? :?

As for possession football mjonc, you may not like it but the facts indicate those teams who cant control the football cant win.
