Yes.

McGuire said Collingwood was disappointed but said it would cause "barely a ripple" at the Magpies.

"We have three executives in Eugene Arocca, Geoff Walsh and David Emerson who could all step into the job," McGuire said. "Eugene will act in the position for now while we decide which way we will head. It will cause barely a ripple because of the work we put in to plan for the future."

Asked his view of Swann's departure, McGuire replied tersely: "Swanny made a significant contribution to the club, but he is a Carlton person now. I don't comment on Carlton people. I speak for Collingwood."

Yet they're upset that he's gone.

That is beautiful, totally pissing Collingwood off
What else is missing from a perfect month?
- NAB saying, we will forgo the loan. repayments
- Carlton having stolen priority picks returned
- Demitrou fond uncouncous in a hotel room with hookers and drugs ?

This is the domain of certain folk from the Ross Oakley administration...

Great line by Eddie, too.

Also liked the "barely a ripple" dig as well.

Good to see some needle between the clubs.

I do begin to wonder how stage-managed all this stuff is though...

I agree ADP - I think all this bitterness is refuelling the old rivalry amongst clubs & supporters - this all equals more media which means more $$$, deliberately - that's the conspiracy theory in me.

Oh it ain't staged, it's really stinging.......

I can't wait to play the pies this year!!!!!!!!!

I can feel another 8 year'ish/15 game'ish winning streak coming on against the pies.

Winning without a struggle, just like the good old days!

This announcement is fantastic for the Blues, and what makes it so much better is that he left Collingwood high and dry to join us.

Eddie is fuming, you could tell by his statement.

The Carlton Football Club stocks just keep rising

I must admit that I'd been reflecting on the Pratt-rein a little bit over the last week. What immediately struck me was that most of the things that Richard had thus far achieved should have been oh so easy for Smorgon to also implement. Let me clarify this statement... that is in no way a criticism of Richard Pratt, but rather a reflection on Graham Smorgon and his inability to put money into the club ($300k - Smorgon could have afforded that easily), or bring in smart operators like Ashman and De Bolfo.

However, this is the first real thing which I look at and think 'gee, Graham Smorgon wouldn't have had a snowball's chance in hell of achieving that'. To be able to lure a CEO away from the enemy, and when that CEO has a very good track record is pure genius by Richard Pratt, and shows just how far we can go under his stewardship.

It doesn't stop me wondering why Smorgon proved himself incapable of showing more business savvy in running the club, but it does speak volumes of our new President and the road on which he is collectively taking us.

Good luck in the job Greg Swann - and may we soon be kicking more off-field goals than your old employers!

I tend to agree, after Collingwood got the Kangeroos CEO for a "lesser job" it did not make sense. Unless of course Collingwood knew that Swann was looking at his options.

Unfortunately you will have to exhume Evan's body and remove "The Spew's" nose from th corpse because its still there.

Haha, will it be poor form to offer the POW to, not only a fan of another club, but to a post made on another forum?!

Here's a summary of what Eddie said:

-Didn't see it coming. (King hit)
-Disappointed a week before season started that it's happened (you prick, Swann)
-He's looking forward to life after Swann (puke)
-He's thickened up Football dept in preparation for this (he never saw this coming, and he's trying cover his club)
-Acknowledged Greg's contribution (trying to be humble)
-Time will heal wounds (you're still bitching about the Harmes tap in 79)
-Shock that Swann flew up to Sydney - thought it might have been about drugs at Collingwood (it was about that, too)
-No acromony toward the decision from Swann (bullshit - who you trying to kid?)
-Would never have sacked Swann, due to how good he was (he had enough of you, Ed)
-No difference to what he did in getting Geoff Walsh (yeah, but we did this in season, so it hurts more)
-Disappointed in the timing, mentioned D.Thomas losing a place to live (no he hasn't, Thomas has found a new place - in 2008 at Carlton)
-Wanted Greg to take the club to the next level of investments (now the rich get poorer)
-Not worried about what Carlton are doing (oh, yes you are - he's shitting himself)

That'd really send them downhill... 8)

Went and brought John Butlers new C.D today and the store tried to upsell me to purchase a John Butler hat. The Gall! John Butler has sold out!! I ripped his poster up in protest and staged a mini sit in until my son threatened to ground me and withdraw my WWE priviledges. Don't want to miss Wrestlemania.
