Carlton aiming for AFL finals: Whitnall
Sunday Mar 18 19:40 AEDT

'Not long after beating the Lions 2.12.7 (97) to 0.10.12 (72), the players vowed not to go over-the-top on winning a second pre-season competition title in three years.

They imposed an early curfew on Saturday night and instead of celebrating on Sunday at a pub - like they did in 2005, when they won that pre-season title - they held a low-key recovery session.'

That's what I like to hear - roll on Richmond in Round 1!

I didn't think I could be in any better mood today, until I read this;

"Not long after beating the Lions 2.12.7 (97) to 0.10.12 (72), the players vowed not to go over-the-top on winning a second pre-season competition title in three years.

They imposed an early curfew on Saturday night and instead of celebrating on Sunday at a pub - like they did in 2005, when they won that pre-season title - they held a low-key recovery session.

There was no sight of any fans at MC Labour Park on Sunday, which also made for a stark contrast from 2006, when Geelong celebrated their pre-season title with 10,000 fans at Skilled Stadium.

Whitnall said Carlton were better-equipped to improve in the premiership season than in 2005, when they finished last, and that the Blues had quickly re-focused on round one opponent Richmond."

Be afraid, Richmond...be very afraid.

The boys are doing all the right things.

They also have a powerful motivating force to help them achieve their objective - the failures of the past 5 years.

This all adds up to a very good basis from which goals can be achieved.

A big party down at Geelong is understandable considering their lack of premiership success - but at Carlton a whole different dynamic is in operation.

The Bellarine Pussies were celebrating the first win for a very (continue, ad infinitum) long time .. at least our guys learned from 2005!

I'm not expecting it at all, but all the same, I wouldnt rule out the finals this year.

We need to look at the fortunes of Carlton through the season compared to the other clubs.

Already there are a fair few issues that are likely to adversly affect other clubs and others look rather un inspiring compared to Us...- for example

North Melb - Thompson's knee injury
West Coast - with their current player issues.
Richmond and Melbourne look pretty lacklustre
Collingwood and Essendon* look mediocre
Brisbane - the 5 captains policy - described by many a s a joke.
Hawthorn - therabouts - but weve already beaten them.

Swans and Freo - now if we can beat these guys - we will be finalists...
