dude, brown was awesome last year before he was re-injured. i reckon when fit he's the best player in the comp. he showed it for a while last year, i remember an 18 mark performance against the hawks, and then he was moved into the centre for a few games and was dominating. i think you are greatly underestimating him. but i doubt he'l be in dominant form next week. i'm concerned for Murphy if he plays. i really wish it wasnt the lions bc they will surely target him again.

lol Ryan, that took me a while to figure out what you were saying about Melbourne v Brisbane. I totally agree, let's not let this one get away.

I also Remember Andrew Merrington taking 14marks against Melbourne about 5 years back...is he the best in the league? lol haha joking...

Brown is certainly a worry, but i think Waite can do the job ok..Brisbane wont go all out with JB with the season proper so close..they'll wrap him in cotton wool and we'll be ok.

Agree Brown isnt what he was but he goes ok first up from a spell as Essendon* fans could tell you...and I wouldnt be selling him short.
If he plays FF I would play Setanta on him......If he plays at CHF I would go for Waite and tell Waite to do a Chad Cornes..dont attempt to outmark him just punch the ball away, get the crumbs and run off him and create.

I would go for Thornton on Bradshaw.....Thorntons having trouble with bigger fowards due to the hands in the back rule and needs someone his size to play on....unlike Brown I think Bradshaw will need a few games to get going and wont be a major threat unless we get our matchups badly wrong......I dont think Setanta is right for Bradshaw....

Copeland will get Murphy you would think....hopefully Murphy's teammates will look after him and deal with any physical stuff from Copeland who is sniper and isnt good enough to carry Murphys bags...

Jonathon Brown is a monster of a man.

He has good hands and leads hard, but....

Jonathon Brown is no longer and never will be the player he was when playing at his lightest weight and young fresh legs at 19, 20 & 21.

Since the back to back to front flags, JB has been seriously hampered by extreme case of OP, knee, hip, neck and back injuries. For a time there it was said thathe may not have made it back; but he did.

His only standout performance since his return was the first game against The Bumbers, and boy did he cream them. Experts commentating that game suggested this is not the game he should be judged on given he was fresh and free from the week to week battle scars, but judge him on the games following. JB has not repeated that performance.

JB today has presence. a big reputation and 3 premiership medals. He will need more than that to beat Waite or Setanta.

I don't fear JB....Bring him on!!

 just watch SETANTA tower over him and,he's a giant of a man,he made lloyd,Hird,Thompson look like midgets and played them like midgets... i will tell you right now and don't anyone forget this, you will NEVER see SETANTA get beaten body on body against anyone this year..with a hair style like that (LOU FERIGNO) and the irish white line fever to go with that (example THOMPSON on saturday night) you can now call him Setanta "HULK" O'hailpin.... watch out whoever he gets this year.I really feel sorry for them...well not really.!!

How's that for a laugh????????????????

If we had lost on Saturday night, we would have been lining up against StKilda at Princess Park.

Will Robert Copeland be playing?

I hope Sheldon doesn't get a run.

wouldnt play walker on black or power. Leave him in defence where he is chopping teams up with his run. Bentick on black and russell on power. The bigger questions we should be asking are not who's going to take black and brown and power...but who is going to take Stevens Murphy Simpson Scotland even Houlihan..all players that are rackign up the pill and damaging teams with it!

Only change for mine..and whilst it's harsh....Jackson for Kennedy if he's fit. The Lions defence cannot and will not cope with a monster forward line of Fev Kennedy WHitnall..(sigh) Hartlett..etc

Merret will get first crack at Fev. Brennan will take the CHF which if its Lance spells alot of trouble for us because Brennan will run all day..Rowe will take Kennedy and be severly undersized...which could mean they might drop BRadshaw back to fill a whole!

Big game for the boys. Hope Gibbs has a ripper and hope Murphy tears Copeland a new one!

I am enjoying the calm level headed determination here:

1. we are playing to win. Good, none of this mucking around its the nab cup crap. It's a final after all, and we take our chances when presented with them (except '99 but that doesn't count cause we really won anyway! )

2. Brisbane have aways been tough, even when not winning flags. No-one getting carried away at all. A little bit of attention, and its Kouta put up before the media - the wise old head, calming everyone down, talking about playing for the team, and team rules.

I am really enjoying this!

I'd have Russell on Black and Carazzo on Power....Black might be a bit too slippery for AB.
Agree on Walker...leave him down back....

I booked 7 adult reserved seats on level 2 on a flank, $38.75 each. Good value i thought.

Ohailpin has to get Brown
Bentick on Power
Russell on Black

Let Walker run out of the backline and create, same as Thornton

Whitnall will come good guys, granted he has been woeful the first 3 games, but he is a quality player.

I know ive been a Stevens knocker previously but i must acknowledge his efforts ( i know its only NAB cup ) but so far he has been very very good.

Bentick vs Black
Russell vs Power

Brown vs Waite
Brandshaw vs Thornton
Charman/McDonald vs O'hAilpin

Brisbane's problems are at the other end:
Merrett vs Fevola
Brennan vs Fisher
Mills vs Kennedy
Roe vs Whitnall

Good onya Hollywood.

Doesn't matter what we think, it's always great when they come good.

Keep the faith; it'll be worth it.

Can't really seem to remember the finer details of the 2005 Wizard Cup that we won, but did all the players receive medallions? Or is the only medal that is awarded on the night (Michael Tuck Medal) given to the B.O.G (Brendan Fevola in 05)?

Hopefully Michael Tuck does not slip up again calling it the Norm Smith Medal!!

It shouldn't be too hard to get Setanta's name wrong after he smashes Brownie.

I'd look at Setanta on Brown but he needs to play a couple of metres off him IMO.
Brown is a great body player and takes the overwhelming majority of his marks on his chest. I would instruct his opponent to run at the ball from the side and spoil on all occasions. If we get sucked in to body on body football with Brown, we'll be in trouble.
Mind you, it will be interesting to see how Jonathan Brown fares with the new "in the back" interpretation.

Time to test out Waite 1st BV. Must see how he goes against a genuine "contested marking" CHF. Franklin isn't and Lucas isn't but Brown is.
