He's a talented played Ackland. I don't think he ever going to be our first ruck solution but as a backup ruck/3rd tall forward he's an excellent pickup.

Welcome to the club Cain

Who will he back up??? He'll be number 1 because he is better than our other ruckmen

I'm sick of Carazzo being put into future plans. The guy is a hack.

Ackland is not so bad - if McPhee knocked us back, well, let's face it, there aint much around.

And, The Tyrant should be ecstatic, Gibbs is ours. Congrtas Ty, all your mindless posts have paid dividends.

Rumour has it 'Sugar' heard 'TRout' was coming and ran....

A real arsewipe, if there ever was one. Dennis' little yes boy .

Happy to have SOS though. I might even speak to him now. Happier to have his missus round the place.    She's not too hard on the eyes.

Hey Garth, I feel sorry for ya. Let me know if there is anything i can do to help.

Ackland - The price you pay for not drafting Maric two years ago.

Pagan keeps on saying that "the game is played 90% above the shoulders". Well, if true, he should show Cain the door now because he is not a smart footballer and anyone who has played against him will tell you that the bloke is a nutter. He won't fit in, it's as simple as that.

G'day Preach

I think Pagan goes by the mantra 'the earth is 90% water'. Yeah he's a stopgap, we all know that. You're right about won't fit in - at least his head.

I would imagine one of the "backup" rucks would have to be be delisted now, wouldnt they ? ( ie Bryan). Obviously there is going to be nothing left in the PSD if we have commited this early, seems bloody strange.

Looks that way to me, as there isn't much point having the same type size ruckmen. A bit suprise Carlton picking him up,was he any good for St Kilda, just i never really heard much of him.

I hear that we already have a second rounder lined up; his name is Adolf...something or other - I think it starts with 'H'. I don't like it but he is now a Naz - er...Blue. So let us all welcome him to the Carlton Football Club! :P :) :P

yeah lets compare picking up ackland to adolf hitler

how ridiculous - this is a football club not world politics/war

support the club and the players - last time i checked ackland hadn't led a dictatorship or a holocaust , heck he isnt even one of the players who was named for drug taking and hasnt been involved in any night club dramas

he wil be a good player for us and he is a carlton player - if you cant bring yourself to support the players - why support the team/club?

not that many people support the club anymore - its not fashionable around here

everyone wants to be synbad

We might still take Luenberger at pick 1,maybe they got Auckland to be the second Ruckmen, back up for Luenberger second year, while the others go in 2 years except Asaike.

It took to page 4 for someone to say the obvious. The Blues will get Gibbs.

Thats great news.If we go for Leunberger(not sure of the spelling) well thats the last straw. Gibbs is a once in a lifetime player

And if Jason Cloke is the next best available well we might as well pick someone like Ackland. The downside is the 3 year thing. Gardiner is [REDACTED] in every department.

It looks as though Bryan will probably get the arse now.

What I hope is that Aisake is promoted from the rookie list and plays at least a few games in the ruck. At the end of 07 it will probably be seeya later McLaren and Deluca and Bryan will be gone as well. AIsake will probably have a young been pole as a partner in crime from the 07 national draft.

I know the inital reaction is @#$%&! another dud but I always feared that Hughes would not go for Gibbs and those cauliflower at Windy Hill would get him.The ruck situation is hopeless but to some degree I this time understand why the club has done it.

Good mid-fielders/rovers can rove to the opponents ruckman - just ask Bob Skilton, he won 3 Brownlow Medals that way.

We will now have a core of good mid-fielders/rovers.

i support the club i do not support stupidity...

Stupidity is what makes my club weak....

He will be a good player will he???
well he might have one good year.... (if were lucky)

He is soft... he doesnt hold his ground ... he likes to play WIDE... he is short for a ruckman not good enough to play as a KPP.. he doesnt have a midfield strong enough yet to even make him look adequate.
Flicked by Port...
StKilda didnt think he was a ruckman last year... thats why they brought in a guy like Gardiner.. who has a shot body.. and a guy called Rix who they drafted in aged 25 or 26 took over their ruck..
Alot of the time Blake rucked for them... 189 cms...

Now please understand this bit.....

How is Ackland any better than what we already have!!!

If we bring in a guy onto our list on a three year contract (and everything that involves up the track like paying him for three years and having our own players asking for three years or they will leave) he must be a full cut above what we already have here...

Is he a cut above what we have????

Tell me how he is a cut above!!!

If were going through all that trouble to bring him to the club with the fallout and risk that entails up the track... what are you expecting him to play like???

Will he shine in our list or will he be like all the others we bring in and delist..???

Thats how you look at a situation if you had a brain...

It amuses me that everybody here simply assumes that we will now draft Gibbs over Leuenberger.

Can somebody enlighten me as to how drafting a 24 yr old 196cm 'honest' ruckman prohibits us from obtaining a young 203cm athletic ruckman who is valued as a future star?

Pagan & co. have stated that they will draft 'the best player'. I don't expect that to change with the acquisition of Ackland.

AND, everybody seems to have forgotten one 'Lachlan Hansen'. Every indication points to the fact that Hughes still hasn't made up his mind who will go at one, and that there are four or five possibilities for to be picked up.

FFS! GIBBS IS NO CERTAINTY!

I for one expect (and hope) that the CFC drafts Hansen. But i'd be only slightly less happy if we got Gibbs or Leuenberger.

Can everyone please stop refering to Gibbs as if he is a certainty -- because AFAIK NO-ONE has stated that he'll be in blue next year.

i'm pretty happy to be honest.

instantly he will be our number 1 ruck. with mclaren in support it's atleast semi competitive. which is about where we have been in the ruck stocks since allan was in his prime anyway.
the three years is a bit of a worry but only if he doesn't perform.
i'm not sure what people were expecting out of the PSD but it was about what i expected.

atleast we have a ruck now and don't have to worry about that too much for 07. still we definatley need to add a young ruck to nurture into our own along with asakie.
i dont mind ackland but we will see how he goes.

hopefully he is the only mature aged player added to the list expect maybe one more like a skipworth to add a bit of senior depth to support the influx of kids. committing to him early is a bit of a rick but i guess they really wanted to sure him up which is fair enough i guess.

i'm a little surprised at the negitative backlash to be honest.

Im not sure if you clowns are watching the same team i am and have been for the past 4 seasons. We are the worst team in the competition and we dont really have an abundance of players that are dumb enough to want to come to Carlton. Lets just be thankful and embrace this young man as one of our own. Wait until 3-4 games in before you bag him, for goodness sake we gave Livingston the hack about 5 seasons to prove himself and he never did.

Be positive he cant be worse than Deluca and McLaren. We will probably pick up a young ruckman in the draft this year so maybe they are just buying time till the young guy comes good.

Before you get all emotional just think about where the club is at and what other options we have.
