Melvey I dont know who your contacts are- but your atittude is probably one of the worst out of any poster on here..
If we are sitting on #23 for Bret before trade week, I like our chances of getting a first rounder for him when other clubs know hes on the market..
this is a pretty fair swap..
I wonder what this means for Livo now...

maybe if we did not up Koutas $$$$$$ and told him to take it or leave it maybe we could of had T-Bird signed by now

I am gutted to me he would of been a futre captain of our club

This is why I would have taken Campo back in the PSD last year and told him he was not welcome at the club and we’d see him in the bullants all year. It would send a signal to anyone that was thinking of walking that we would play hardball if they were not prepared to look out for the best interests of the club … it would have sent a message to Thornton that he needs to be telling Hawthorn that he would like to come but Carlton needs to be fairly compensated …

To me that would have been more value to us than Dylan was as pick 1.

For the record if the Hawks want Bret then they should need to get us a top ten pick or entice Buchannan from Sydney to us as part of the Spider deal… I fear we will get a fair bit less than that…

We have all been crying out for another top 10 pick in this draft. Although not my preferred scenario, this is clearly our opportunity to do that.

How do we best engineer this to get a top 10 pick out of this mess?

This just up on the AFL website...a number of clubs have expressed an interest...PREFERRED club is Hawthorn...Carlton offered a deal the same as Hawthorn's...

The amount of $$$ Kouta was signed for has nothing to do with this.

Have you met the kid?
Do you even know him?

You come on here absolutely slandering the kids character and you've probably never even spoken to him.

I've met Bret several times and he is one of the most approachable, friendly and humble players at Carlton.
Your attack on him was pathetic, agenda riddled and ill informed.

you could approach me and i could come across the same a lovely humble caring bloke.

i would take the person who i knows word over yours.

but thanks anyway

this is a major set back for us. It means now, that whitnall is the only experienced KPP in the backline, and he just isn't the answer down there.
As much as i would love to get Hansen, we have to take Gibbs, but i'm scared now that maybe we will take someone like Hansen(who i think will have a great career) but we will miss out on Gibbs who could go to Essendon* and dominate for 10 years.

If we could some how get a first rounder for Thornton or pick 6 off the hawks i will be a little bit more happy, as we will surely get another talented player. Is there anyway possible that the club can the priority pick back in this draft, has anyone got any news on whether we are going to challenge it in court etc. Sorry if i am behind the times, i know the AFL recently rejected it, but somehow it would be a dream come true if we could get hansen and gibbs because of the loss of Thornton.

If we can't manage that, i think we will have to try and get Polak, hopefully he can turn it around with a new home and somehow produce the goods, because even though Thornton was more of a third tall, all we have now to play full back is Hartlett who is unproven, Bower who is more of a third tall anyways at the moment, and i don't want Setanta there at full back, i want him further up the ground. We are in trouble now

CK- i bet you he has too.... the bummers are always hanging around carlton this time of year looking for disgruntled players.....Dirty dogs!!

He supported Ess growing up too.

I think GWS posted the PSD thing as a possible scenario a couple of weeks ago. Would absolutely spew if they got him for nothing!!

Hmm perhaps this could end up working in our favour and giving us some leverage back. If Hawthorn only offers 24 + junk, then we could do a Veale-esque deal with the Bombers and trade Trent Sporn for pick 18 and a player, and then decline to trade Bret and forcing him into the PSD so the Bombers get him.

You little beauty!

Hope the media guys keeping talking up Thornton's value, will only be good for us.

Should we all be ringing the Hawthorn switchboard pretending to be Hawthorn members and demanding that we must get Thornton to the club at all costs?

If Brett doesn't want to be at Carlton anymore then let him go. The fact that he has started this mess shows us that Thornton is not the type of person we need at the club. We gave him a chance to build a career by putting him on the rookie list and then promoting him to the senior list. Obviously he thinks he is better than the club rates him. Disappointing no doubt but the reality is we can cover him with the likes of Bower and Setanta. The extra grunt that we will have in the midfield next year will stop the ball coming down as much as it did in Brett's five years at the club. Agree that if he signs for $300k+ then he will be under all sorts of pressure at the Dawks. In five years time when Murph, Gibbs, Josh, Kade, Jared, and Walks are celebrating our 17th flag we won't even give Thortnon a second thought.

Move him on quickly so we can all move on.

Sadly I think we will get nothing for him better than a second rounder -Take #22 and do it early.
If he wants out let him go, best to know now, the problem is if no trade and no contract he's a Bomber and we get nothing: sound familiar.
He may not want to go to Melbourne or Brisbane or North etc. If the Bombers are ok to him as a second option and he agrees dollars in principle then it's deal or no deal- Stevens style.
Remember he's not Acker or Tarrant who have a contract.

Don't be surprised if this isn't T-bird's manager playing silly buggers. T-bird could very well stay.

That's [REDACTED]. :( :( :( We offer Lance 400k and we let T-Bird walk out on us. WTF is going on???

From Hawthorn we accept a top 10 draft pick, nothing less.

So judas mark 111 is leaving. Probably got to hard for him like his mate Campo. Bye Bye. Thornton is not as good as he thinks he is, he turns the ball over at nauseum and for a player asking 300k is not acceptable. This will at least free up some $ for us to go for a polak or notting. Tell me who played on Sydneys best 2 forwards last time we played them. One clue it was not him. They are the future , if he does not want to play for CFC then best be gone. Hopefully we screw whoever wants him and look forward to the next crop of young players who will bleed Navy blue.

Word on the Carlton website is that Thornton is still a required player.

Although he has stated that he wants to got to Hawthorn I think that us having the number 1 oick in the PSD gives us a huge advantage.

If we could get the number 6 pick from the Hawks, we would be looking at Berge, Selwood and Jetta in that order.

If he walks without being traded, we would have to pick him up in the PSD because he would be the best player available.
