Have we offered Walker a new contract yet? There is nothing to suggest he is at all unhappy with the club, but this is the sort of talent who's contract should be renegotiated a year before the existing one runs out. I always thought the Weagles managed their list well in that regard.

Walker hasn't really shown much yet. If he's done ok in the first half of the year they might decide to offer him a new contract but they'll probably wait until the end of the year like they do with most young talent.

I think you will find that a few people, including the coach, would tend to disagree there.

Walker is safe and aint going nowhere. The #1 jumper suits him fine thank you.

The kid has alot of potential no doubt but his disposal is sloppy and he doesn't do enough around the ground (not that I expect a 18 year old to dominate). What I'm trying to say is that he's hardly done a Judd to this point and that he still hasn't quite made it yet as a consistent AFL standard player. He's still got a long way to go. I don't really want to see Carlton signing up players on potential alone. Let's see the kids actually earn their pay for once.

Judd is one in a million.
One in a google plex. (One for you BackToTheFuture fans)

Players like him come around once every century.

Walker will obviously be re-signed and I reckon this year we will see a little more consistency creep into his game.

Don't get me wrong, I don't expect him to be Judd or even close. I'm not that stupid. I just saying he hasn't done anything yet to warrant Carlton making a desperate attempt to sign him as quickly as possible. We'll sign him, but we'll sign him up at the end of the year like every other player.

Walker will be signed up, no doubt about it. It's a question of when, not if.

I reckon he's shown quite a bit for an 18 y/o coming in for his second season. It is unfair with all the expectation put on him. He is a lot further developed than a lot of 18 y/o and just needs time before we see his best. I have no doubt we will sign him up.

he is the future. Sign him up.

Yes he has, for a 18 year old he's been great and has shown great potential. I can't wait to see what he'll eventually become, but I just hope they don't sign him for more than he's currently worth because of that potential. I'd be happy if they signed him up now but I just don't see why he should be treated any differently than our other potential stars are/were. Waite and Sporn was signed at the end of the year and so was Houlihan. Should we really make it any different with Walker? That's all I'm saying.

There's no urgency, it can wait...good players don't leave Carlton :D

Good players who aren't heckled by the President anyway.

The one reason why you might consider signing up walker early is if you expect a significant upswing in performance throughout the year - in which case its better to sign the player early (based on performances to date and some future potential) as opposed to later on (where performances and the option of an open market will have inflated the player's salary)

I seem to recal that they gave him an extra year earlier this year - I could be wrong

The priority signature should be Pagan's IMHO

Couldn't agree more.

He's probably the catalyst for alot of other re-signings anyway.

i agree with hypno toad, besides his debut game he really has not done much especially compared to wells who was a number 2 pick. there is no doubt he will be a star for us he has to work on his kicking i can actually say i am disapointed with his foot skills for a number 2 pick i would expect better.

Jesus, there's some hard to please types around.

I'll take a truck load of kids who haven't shown much if they've shown as much as Walker when they're 17 - 18.

It's a ruthless game but I'm not sure anyone at the club would be comtemplating trading or not signing Walker because "he's no Judd'.
