This is actually embarrassing for the AFL/MRO now.
Collingwood players can do as they please.

Why bother reporting Collingwood players really.

The AFL really is a farce nowadays.

The game i loved in the 80’s is finished and gone.

That is just ridiculous- it was reduced from medium to low because his knee hit the ground before (the sling tackle catapulted) his head into the turf….
What a joke!
Every future sling tackle now carries no penalty….

If we are worried about Frampton playing or not, we have bigger problems then I thought.

I tend to feel the same way and as a side note we should try and get the Collingwood tackling coach ...... they have this knack of bouncing a player's head on the ground, getting reported for it and then getting off. Apologies to Brody Mihocek.

I think we went too light on against Hawthorn especially under those conditions. I'd be bringing in some harder bodies against Collingwood.

Reidy for Riley (although Riley shows promise)
Acres for Hollands (should have happened last weekend)
Lord for Hewitt (to be on the conservative side)
F Young for Ison (it wasn't Ison's worst game on the weekend, but he needs a rest)

Others worth considering Fogarty, Williams and B Camporeale.

Agree with the sentiment but will it be the same conditions this weekend?

Reidy is all VFL Tarzan and AFL Jane, I'd stick with Riley, maybe bring in L Young to add presence in the fwd line and second ruck.
F Young is no more heavyweight than Ison, I'd bring in Williams for Ison if anyone.

Yes, Zac in please... tends to go well against the Filth if memory serves. And Acres, of course.

My changes would be as follows:

Out
Hewett (inj)
Hollands
Riley (not ready yet)
Ison (should have been given a spell weeks ago)

In
Lord
Acres
Pittonet or Reidy
Moir or Williams

Agree with most of that.
Pitto def back in if fit. Riley not ready but despite that I'd still play Riley over Reidy.
Reidy is rubbish.
Moir has shown a bit more in vfl in recent weeks. Love to get a look at him under Fraser. Hoping he really smashes down the door today.

Moir named as our CHF. got 6 touches and no goals. saw him give a HB GA to Flynn Young and a good tackle but haven’t watched the whole game. he’s still struggling to get into games enough to warrant senior selection yet.

you know what i’ve been thinking about, his parents were marshall arts champions, and when he did his first class they said ok this isn’t for you. must have been seriously non-agressive or something for them to make such a big call in one class as a young kid! im wondering if he has the temperament to compete at the highest level? he’s blessed with physical attributes, hence him wearing the 43 jumper but yet to see enough desire for the contest in him for AFL. i’d love to be shown to be totally ignorant of course. :-)

the MC seems to have a clear preference for youth atm. perhaps CD and GW are considering a mini-cull or trades at the end of the season and want to give some younger players a fair shake before deciding on them, and assessing what we need to recruit for. (isn’t it obvious? a AA/AAA ruck, a power forward and another strong tall who can defend and/or play swingman — less Nick Haynes more Gov).

i doubt Ison or any of the first year draftees would be in that category of young players being assessed with an eye to trades. he’s got the skills, just needs to mature as an AFL player and body so he can bring his A-game each week.

it really looks like it, and to gaslight us we have half the media running interference for Collingwood thugs.

Not holding my breath on this one.

This group has proved time and time again to shit the bed against this mob. Throw in the fact that finals are still very much on the line and it will make them shit the bed even more.

Last night exposed some very big cracks we've been covering up - I mean I got smashed for losing it because I wasn't happy with a 4 point win over Richmond - in fact, we've beaten Richmond and Essendon** by a combined total of 8 points, when everyone else has been belting them by 50+.

The Pies aren't great but are mentally strong and well drilled. Despite our win streak the signs have been there that we're still not shaking off old habits.

yeah the Fraser Train celebrations were all about “yay, Blues arent really a bottom three team now” rather than “we’re now on a 2023 kinda roll to September and a Prelim” as some in the media teased (probably knowing we’d fall on our faces).

we can win this if we bring our A-game but Pies have improved their forward setup since we played them in R6. on form you’d have to tip Pies but a week is a “long time inn footy” apparently.

Wow in what world do we need to worry about Frampton. Geez. How can they make him good and we cant make someone like Moir good.

You're questioning our development or the stuff between Moir's ears.

Frampton has become a fixture since 2023 Premiership.
He takes a lot of intercept marks. Even with moore out, they have marking power in the backline.

Without Moore 203, it would be Frampton 201 who would take Harry 203. That could end up 0-0.
Imagine Harry going into the ruck, leaving kemp 193 and Gov 191 as our KPFs against Frampton and Puncher, allowing Howe to be 3rd man up.

I hope Frampton misses because it leaves 20yo Cochrane 195 to partner Puncher 196 and Howe 190.
We have to stop them intercepting and if we dont play a lead mark game, get the ball on the floor for Evans Byrne Ainsworth Hayward types.

I feel Young has to come in this game, to chop out in the ruck or be our KPF if Harry is the chop out.

I wouldnt mind Young in the backline too because Cameron 204 is in good form and he wonders down for his 1-2 goals from marks against us.
They also have McStay 196 as their 2nd ruck, Buller 199 and the other 3 midsized marking forwards Membrey, McCreery and Anderson.
Derksen 195, Dean 193, and Haynes 192 wil be stretched as they were in the wet by Chor Lewis and Gunston.

Selection will be interesting. I think Young will play back on Buller/ Cameron. Maybe swung in the ruck as a chop out against Cameron.

I have no problem playing Riley at CB, but he needs support. I don't care if we play Pitto too. I think playing him will be good for his development. He can stretch Pies defenders playing KPF in goal square at times.

Moir - Who knows. But if it is between his ears, then there is no one at the club that can turn him around. So skill development and between the ears development go hand in hand. And a club should look after both. Doesnt help that he comes in for a game or two and gets dropped again. We do this regularly. I am glad we are not doing it with Ison, even though he needs a rest. But its good for his confidence and giving him a sample size to work on over the summer.

And shows we believe in him.

With Moir, we havent done the same unfortunately.

Don't feel sorry for him Drewgirl.
Moir was gifted the last 2 games of 2024, as a 19yo, to get a feel and work on his shortfalls over summer.

Then last year Moir got his block of 7 games in a row, to end the season. Same opportunity as Ison.
His best game he took 4 marks for 4 goals vs Dees. Then his next 5 games were very average.

He didn't fire a shot in preseason, and, he was gifted a spot in Round zero.
All he proved is he wasnt fit enough and out of form. Gifting games is not a good idea
If he had looked OK and willing, he'd be in Ison's spot last week, this week and next week.
They play the same role.

I think when fans who want him to play they are suggesting we gift him a game regardless how bad he's been in the VFL.
What message would that send to players playing well in the VFL, and selection integrity.

Truth is, his contract as up for discussion this year, and I want to retain him on the list in hope, but sadly, he hasn't deserved a game this year.

He will be picked at the drop of a hat if he shows something. Trusgrove is trying to get him into the game playing HB, midfield, but he lacks application, desire and desperation to get into the team, let alone help his team mates in the VFL win games. He hasn't fired a shot in the VFL this year. Its July.

agree with this except i think he had one good VFL game this season where he kicked 3 or 4 and looked lively all game. forget which game, many weeks ago.

FWIW, I’m not particularly worried about Frampton beyond my general wariness about playing in a big game against the Pies. This game is a big challenge and great opportunity to show we have some mettle.

However, from a broader AFL fan perspective, that was a ridiculous let off in my opinion.
