The AFL app says back issue. I didn't see it.

On The Round So Far on the AFL app they highlighted the umpire error against Cerra that resulted in 50m and a goal to Ginnivan. The umpire clearly said play on and raised his arms. It was a crucial decision as it gave the Hawks the early ascendancy.

I'm not so upset about the loss. We've had a good run and were beaten by a good team in conditions that didn't suit us. The wins masked some of our deficiencies. The loss tonight laid them out to bare.

I’m with you Malbi.
I was looking forward to this test: The Hawks are an excellent team, well coached, high footy IQ and they match up particularly well against us.
The way they move confounds us - last night, the last quarter in particular reminded me of that game I think in 2024 when our players simply had no idea where the Hawks players were, where they were appearing from or where they were going, and kept sucking us in towards the ball carrier who would just pop it over the top all the way down the field.

It will now be super interesting to see how we respond against the Pies. On the field, in the coaching box and at the selection table.

Also, a few people are pushing for Moir to come in. I haven’t been following the VFL - has he been playing particularly well, or do we just want to give him another look at AFL level?

I agree—it was probably a loss we needed to have. The real test now is how we respond next week against Collingwood. That response should give us a much better indication of whether Fraser is the right person to coach us going forward.

Wasn't expecting a win but a 60pt loss letting then kick 100pts in those conditions wasn't it.

In the last 20 years all I can recall is a drought breaking win at Marvel when Marc Murphy was playing. And the game in 22 under Voss when we lead them by 50 points at half time and won by a goal.

Is that it?

We beat them in 2021 and 2023, have lost our last four.

Disappointing loss in that is the worst prepared we have been for a while.
Felt for Flynn Riley but he battled hard, just not ready to face gorillas like Meek. Wrong game for Pitto to miss.
Cripps had a shocker in conditions that suited him.
Lastly, we were out coached and out structured. Not a good night for our caching team.
And don’t start me on the umpires - disgraceful fist half in particular.

I reckon we've actually gone flat the last month, we just happened to play teams that are worse than we are and kept on winning.

The conditions last night were as bad as I can remember us playing in for years (early on at least), and we clearly, immediately, ran out of ideas of how to play in them.

It seems like it'll take a bit longer to get the Voss 'if at first you don't succeed...' element of our game-style out of our system.

Boomers and Xers may remember 1982 when we beat them four times.
Twice during the home and away season, then the Qualifying Final and the Preliminary Final.
Good times.

Biggest loss of the year.
In those conditions should have been a lot closer

Umpires were putrid in the first half. Shocking.
See Fox commentators and football people.
2 nd half umpires continued to confuse us all.
Hawks forwards literally given unwarranted frees and kicked goals from them.

I thought we started well with first goal, but then Umpires gave them 3 gifts in the first quarter which took the wind out of our sails.

This took our momentum as in previous 7 weeks we got off to good starts and were able to control games somewhat.

No doubt Hawthorn better than us and I’m pretty sick of being bitch slapped by them for the best part of 25 years.

Hope we can respond against Filth - which really now is an 8 point game.

Typical sniping from “The Family Club” - they’ve been doing this “accidentally-on-purpose” shit for years.

The party's over . Back to earth with a thud . Basically outmuscled . Physical strength was the difference . Beauty is despite the untimely loss we are still in the race . Fate is in our own hands . Starts next week against Pies . Get around 'em .

Put the umpires aside  Thats an issue for CD and GW to deal with.

Our 3 KPDs Haynes Derksen Dean were no match for their 3 KPFs Gunston Lewis Chol.

Usually the oppo KPFs would dine out when our mids fail to defend. Our mids did fail to defend their running mids, but in this game the small forwards Moore and Ginnivan dined out.

Their 3 KPFs won their fair and square one on one’s. Lucky for then, and us, Chol missed with 5 of his sgots at goal.

Big concern. Chol and Lewis monstered Dean and Haynes for size and strength

I’m sure toying with the idea of trading Weitering can see why his strength is imperative in the backline.

Our players need to respect their losing margin.
