It was an enjoyable day on Saturday. Good win, one which I was a bit worried about for some reason.
It is so good to see the young players continuing to improve and the team seem to be really enjoying themselves.
6 in a row, who would have thought so a couple of months ago.
I saw Peter Dean before the game, did I mention who good Harry is?

I’m still here
Saturdays win was excellent
Pressure was great
But I don’t get excited too much
Have seen so many aspirations ruined by this club in 25 years
By the big families and the board
You prompted me to be here

The board have to tick off the appointment of the new Senior Coach
Hopefully they leave Wright and Davies and Priestley and his CEO speak bullshit butts out of it to do the job completely
And good to see the 6 candidates are potential first time coaches with vast assistant experience
That’s what we need
Good to see Graham getting an interview
His CV is excellent and his knowledge of the modern game is there
If Fraser doesn’t want the job then he doesn’t get it

As for team selection isn’t great to see Ison and Wilson getting the nod over Hollands and Williams
So @#$%&! obvious Voss was clueless
Windy where are we on the ladder?
After the Richmond game the following matches will tell us where we are at
Our we a middle of the road team or can go further
And wherever we finish there will be be potentially more change
Stand still and your gone
We want Walker
Looks very likely we will need another high draft from a trade
We may be able to trade picks to get it but more likely we will need to trade a big name
North have already shown an interest in Weitering
If North make the 10 they would be the worst team in the league history to make finals
So they will likely drop lower so the their first rounderl will be higher
There are question marks on Sydney but given their ladder position they are likely to finish top 2 which means the 2026 pick we got for Curnow won’t get the job done to get Walker
Derkson O’ Farrell and Dean who is a ripper they can do the key position defense job in 2027 and the future

Windy there is more to life than simplistic posts which is you based on what I read from you
Your not on your Pat Malone
Much to play out

Would much prefer the occasional simplistic post than reading your constant repetitve BS.

So what’s repetitive about the situation with the draft picks and Walker
Or the history of the coaching candidates
If you want to write simplistic posts fine but referring to repetitive BS is rubbish

I’m hoping the club gets this coaching appointment right
It needs to because winning a flag is getting harder

Just go back over your posting history this season.

What’s excellent about his CV?

I’ve got him ranked last, behind blokes that haven’t even been mentioned.
Genuine flight risk, with the type of low smoke point that comes from being tethered to the nest his whole life.

Respect that there’s a story there & he’s had his reasons. But, if you’re knocking back the West Coast job, this isn’t the place for you.

I'm beginning to think that in every conversation you had in your professional careeer, it went along the lines of.................."That was really good work (insert name here) BUT............................."

It is always the BUT, that you just can't help throwing in Keogh. It your old man version of 'Yeah/Nah' and 'Like'.

Run down to Bunnings before the sale ends and buy a hammer, some nails and some timber. Build a Bridge and just get over it.

Honestly some of the things you Windy and Dannyboy say are laughable in my eyes
If we were all the same how boring would the world be
I’m entitled to my view about anything as you are
Build a bridge
Get over it
What’s it
I just want the club to get a coaching appointment right
That’s fair enough in my eyes
If you think I need to build a bridge because of that your entitled to have that opinion
My opinion is you and a few others don’t look at the big picture
You of all people should realise how hard it is to win a flag recruiting well particularly when the 2026 draft is the last uncompromised draft for a while
How is the club’s recent past not relevant

Everyone is entitled to an opinion on this site
You can’t deny that the club has been run by moronic behavior
And to me that is relevant to future decisions

And on a personal level you don’t know what sort of person I am other than my views about Carlton
I don’t really know who you are other than your views about Carlton
I did offer to catch up for a drink one time if you can remember
You declined the offer
We have similar musical tastes
We could of talked about that
There is more to life than the football club you support
Oh well….

“ I think Joe Bonamassa is a very good guitarist BUT BUT he sticks too much to the pentatonic scale. Greg Koch is such a better player “

I wouldn’t say that.
If you love Joe Bonamassa good on ya.

Apart from all 23 of the playing group playing for each other, and to a plan, the thing I really am liking is our recruitment.
Below are the players vs WCE Carlton recruited in the last 4 Trade/Draft periods (Oct 2022- Oct 2025):

Backline: Cowan pick 30 2022; Wilson pick 34 2023; Haynes Free 2023; Derksen Free 2025; Florent 3rd rnd 2025; Dean pick 3 2025;

Midfield: Acres 3rd Rnd 2022; Smith pick 3 2024; Ainsworth 2nd Rnd 2025;

Forwards: Ison pick 47 2025; Byrne pick 45 2025; Hayward Free 2025; Evans Rookie 2024

Injured: O'Farrell pick 2024; Carroll rookie 2025;

15 players from last 4 Drafts excluding Ollie, Moir OKeefe Chesser B Campo L Campo Charleson Young in VFL.

PLUS we will add a 1st Rnd Walker and 3 x 2nd Rnds draftees coming in last uncompromised Draft.

I think the club has done better than we give them credit for since 2022 Draft/ Trade period.
Amazing what difference a new coach makes. GW and CD made the gutsy decision only 9 rounds in.
Its obvious we have the right people in charge to make the hard decisions.

We are doing OK. I even believe we can give the Finals a shake. One week at a time.
Happy with Fraser, but I imagine we will land a better coach than Fraser.

Only first round picks from weekends team are

Smith pick 3
Dean pick 3

Next highest is pick 30 for Cowan and Ainsorth for a 2nd Rnd pick.

That's impressive.

O'Farrell was pick 40. He's from the Kennedy trade.
Hayward, Dean and Walker from the Curnow trade plus 2027 1st.
Byrne from the Durdin trade.
Cowan from the Fisher trade
Acres from the Dow trade

could it be that Pauline Hansen misses her sitting hours in Senate so much b/c she's got a TC account with the avatar of 'Keogh'?! admittedly fewer grammatical errors on TC but tone and the logical slight of hands and butt covering run on par.

Pretty hard to make a call on Fraser until the end of the H/A season, the final run of top tier opponents will be interesting, that's for sure. It's hard to argue with the results Fraser's brought so far, it's more than a few wins on the trot. Its the game style evolution (subtle but significant changes on what Voss was trying to do, I'll leave it at that), it's the player confidence, determination and skill execution we're all recognising (AKA sugar hit to Keogh and co). The team-first mentality has gone to a new level in a game style that encourages risk taking at the right times, selflessness always, a blameless attitude (looking at you Weiters) but protects from the blowback with that pushing up, high defence strategy that TBH I found unnecessarily leaky and at times shaky under Voss — but is working well now. And it seems like the best clubs adopt this strategy today.

Austin probably can feel hard done by. But I would have thought that all of the big calls like trading Charlie + 2nd round picks for Haywood & Florent + 1st round (prob 15-17th) draft picks and trades/delistings to clear the decks for role players like Carroll, Wilson, Ison, Byrne, Moir, F Young et al were made a much higher pay grade than Austin's level.

My main concern with the list currently is that when we pulled out all those boys for the Ones, the VFL team dropped off badly. We lack depth for KPPs, AFL-grade rucks (Pitto is backup at best in my mind but soldiering on nicely), midfields (other than wingers, now with Carroll, Cerra and Acres showing some of his old form there's a surplus!), developing running backs that have speed and skill so needed in the modern game (think the Daicos brothers), and developing silky skilled forwards. Especially of concern is our lack of reliable tall KPDs in the VFL and tall KPFs of VFL/AFL level (Harry is the only one really, I guess Gov plays like a genuine tall too and is doing a great job as swingman in 2026).

Thankfully GW and CD have identified the lack of VFL form and talent as something that the list managers need to address, and topping up the AFL list at the right moment to make a genuine run at the 17th Flag in the next little while (hopefully in time for Crippa to play in a GF, god knows the guy deserves some team glory, whatever critics think of his leadership skills, be busts his gut and carried this team on his shoulders for a decade).
