Watching that interview, you would think that if he got the job, the club would be in good hands.
Measured, calm, considered, honest, respectful, intelligent and an outstanding character.
Regards CazzesmanAnd the fact that he has led four of his own teams is a huge testament to his capacity to lead...and I don't mean coach.
When Yze was asked a similar question about his back story there was no indication of leading his own team prior to Richmond...leading a backline and midlfield was the extent of it. This is very different.
He actually sounded less experienced that Fraser, and Yze has been coaching now for several years.
I know the Teague similarities narrative is out there, but I get a sense this is different....just feels different.
I think we can put the Teague Train comparisons to rest IMO.
When Teague took over he put the senior players back in the side and put the development program on the back burner.
That is why he won games and that is why we should've never appointed him as head coach.
Fraser has not done this.
If you look at it with open eyes you will see that both him and the coaching group have just been implementing and developing the same game plan they created all year.
And as Cazz pointed out the mid tier players have been playing it well, which enables the stars to shine and the kids to grow and the results to come.
Plus players have also gone out due to injury opening the door for others to come in and positions to be changed up and as a result of winning games our younger players have been given more exposure, meaning less changing at the selection table.
It would make perfect sense to appoint him as head coach to see how far this coaching team can continue to grow this group of players and to see where it max's out.
But that will still not 100% address the same issues we have had for the last several years with the playing group, their physical attributes, mental fortitude and on field leadership.
At least CD in his recent interview acknowledged the same holes in the list are still there and the VFL side is proof we need to keep building on this list.
Clearly a fresh change is what the playing group needed, but luckily for us we have enough runway to see what happens when the pressure of expectation changes.
Luckily for us, we have both GW and CD in charge of looking for the right person for the club and their vision.
The only questions about Josh would be:
1. What happens when the players have pressure put back on them to complete their roles and be expected to perform.
2. Is Josh an architect of change or just the front person for the whole coaching group. i.e. is he a visionary, tactician etc.
The jury is still out IMO but I'd be leaning on continuing the growth with the current group of coaches and game plan adding more players at years end to deliver it.
As a side note, in his last press conference he started sounding more and more like Voss.
Talking about connection, playing roles, growing as players, F50 entries etc.
