We came into tonight thinking it was just going to happen. We weren’t switched on.
We came out after half time with more desire and turned it around. That wouldn’t have happened previously.
Hopefully we take the week to recoup and come back ready to play. Winning is better than losing.

They let Harry take 30s pretending to line up for goal from 60m, after marking with 80s left and Carlton 11 points up. I would have lost my shit if that happened against us.

Hewett also got a goal after taking the knee. Aside from that, Essendon** got a lot of soft frees, but key moments fell our way.

Thanks G

frees in the first quarter and i think second were at a 2:1 ratio in favour of *. Sheady conditioned the cheats to blame every single loss on umpires. it’s one reason i find many of their suppporters loathsome. whinging bastards and ungracious winners on a par with the filth.

definitely we dodged a bullet tonight. i hope this isn’t a sign of where we really are after the sugar hit wore off.

You mean the 24 to 19 free kicks in their favour?

Nah mate, just want to know if there was any dodgy timekeeping....

saw the bit where McKay took his time, didn't know he was that smart.... but geez the forwards were stagnant

Harry claimed he was taking a shot so was entitled to 30 seconds. Whether the umpire should accept he is taking a shot is another issue but that happens multiple times a week. Funny how it's only an issue when a Carlton player does it.

Only timekeeping error was Hayward told to play on when there were still 12 seconds on the clock.

The clock shifted onscreen from 44 seconds to about 20 seconds.

Had zero impact on the players.

Absolute beat up.

That game can go in the bin.

Our goal kicking is a problem. Cripps kicks that goal and it's basically game over.

I had an uneasy feeling about this game. It was obvious early that we were not switched on. 16 tackles to half time says a lot. Coming back is made difficult as we came down to their level. I will take the 4 points but our players need to watch over and over that last transition from the scum. It was horrible on our part.

Same here, I was not at all confident.

sooner we get Hayward off the wing and back at HF the better from my perspective. i know he’s been great on the wing in the absence of Carroll and Ollie but we don’t have enough dynamic forwards who can lead, mark and goal with consistency. he’s a three goals a game forward if he stays up forward and we get it in to him.

This was pretty much Essendon*'s grand final this year. A chance to stick it to the Blues. They threw everything at it, got some nice help from the maggots and still didn't have what it takes. The positive is we won a game that a few weeks ago we would have lost. Just have to take it one week at a time.

I watched pretty much all of the game I don't recall hearing it. But I pissed off during the half time break so I'm not sure.

Can someone explain to me why we give away so many frees at the ruck contest.

So many tonight. We can’t keep on letting that happen. As it gives the oppo such a leg up.

Yep underwhelming win. But we take it I guess.

Essendon*** were very good. Difference is that we came out after half time and really improved. As opposed to when Voss was coaching which is a positive.

first free of most games is Pitto going over the line. then he pulls a face as if to say “what was that for?”. Big Kruz isn’t earning his wage until this stops. admittedly it’s a weird rule open to a lot of subjective interpretation far as i can tell. our game like most teams really does hinge on how our middle six are travelling.

That is the worst rule imaginable. That together with the Stand Rule.

I watched Sydney and St.Kilda. Grundy didn't even just for some centre bounces as he looked like going over the line. t's was farcical. Happened a number of times. Must be a KPI at AFL House, to check your brain cells in at the door before entering the building.

That goalkicking is killing me. Made what should have been a few goal win hard work. Just have to be better. Just not good enough.

I naively went to the game expecting a Freo v Norf scoreline and a massive % boost.
Within the first five minutes that delusion was put to bed.

Maybe we just let them get close enough that the AFL would decide they don't need assistance, in which case Josh Fraser is a hero who should be handed a 10 year deal first thing tomorrow morning.

Took it easy. We’ve got this. Essendon* surprised us and got some confidence and momentum. Our pressure and effort increased dramatically after half time. Yet it still went down to the wire. We all love Crippa but two shit kicks one for goal another a short 15 metre pass into the corridor that turned over nearly cost us the game. Derksen just doesn’t look up to it. Sorry. Missed Weiters big time tonight
