Watched the replay of the game and the one person that stood out was Acres. My goodness he kills momentum with his disposals. Really is a butcher.
How he nailed the goal against Melbourne has me still wondering…

So glad you mentioned this surrey.

He does more good than bad. I feel Kemps and Harry's ,isses are momentum killers but we persevere with them. Feel we will be a better team when we can replace Kemp and Acres with better.

We all get frustrated when he misses his targets, especially by foot, and at times by hand, but I think he moves so fast, onto the next contest, stays involved and time is something he lacks at time; not always. he works the ball in our favour. He's hard to shift, and he moves oppo bodies with ease. he's a big unit.

Watched him in the VFL and felt we missed his strength. Ollie's endurance and speed is great but Acres covers him with body strength. Its great to have a player like Acres as depth though. He's a much better option that Cottrell, Chesser and Lucas Campo on the wing at this stage.

Evans is the other with a question mark and with Byrne and Young, I would bring in some more class through the middle with the ball - in Williams.

Watching what Williams does with the footy in the VFL, he is all class. he's handy in the midfield and our most dangerous Small forward, and can play HB.

Evans for me over Flynn and Byrne at this stage. Just a smart footballer, and good on both sides. If I was going to pick 3 smalls for next year, I'd go Ainsworth, Evans and Byrne. Turns 33yo in 2027 but I'd like to keep Williams for depth next year, and may the best man earn their spot in the seniors.

I heard we were looking at a small forward from WAFL or SAFL in the MSD. No idea who, or why, but it raised questions about the standing of our current lot.

Shame about Acres as he is everything you want in a player. Apart from his kicking.

Did have some good moments. Kick to Hayward in the last was pin point.

He runs, chase, spoiles all day. Why cant someone fix his kicking ?

Yep. Nearly fell of my seat with that kick.
Even his handballs are at the bootlaces or worse totally wayward.
He seems to find a lot of ground and gets it a fair bit but I do wonder how much of that is then opposition just allowing him freedom. Real shame because he can read the play.

Acres works harder than most, because he has an amazing engine. Gets to more contests and follows up the next.

Acres hit the most distance for high speed in the game: 3 kms, and most Total sprints for the game 30 of them. Next best was Ainsworth with 20, followed by Cats players.

Interesting Evans and Smith had the highest average speed for the game. Evans had the most average speed up for the game in Defense,, yet you look at his heat map and its looks like he was within the 50m arc. That's a lot of unnoticed/ unrewarded? running. Defensively we outworked the cats. They showed they are the comps superior front runners. Well tackles like Byrnes stopped their attack and sat them on their arse :fight:

Good thing all the group are up and about. Deserved the 4 points.

This is why it's important to have selection integrity.

Are Walsh and Haynes injured? I wouldn't "manage" anyone before the bye otherwise. Don't want to see any complacency.

I think I'd probably only switch Newman for Williams this week. They all get a week off soon.

Setterfield usually does a pretty good job on Cripps. Others will have to step up.

Walsh was favouring his shoulder last week

Haynes is scary with ball in hand and often calls for the get out ball when not in position to do so results in turnovers

Essendon* have been putrid we should win and do it easy.

Is there something wrong with Newman.

Not silly to give his hammies a 2 week layoff before the GWS game.

I don't like changing winning formulas but this week is a good week to rest players if the rest they will get over the bye (two weeks) wont suffice.

Build up for the all important GWS game. Our Final. Win the next 2 games, and the momentum is real.

I really don't like the concept "gifting" games.

A "Gifted game for development" is another story...if there is a good chance that player will make the grade.

Wilson played last year after good form but wasn't quite ready, and he worked on his shortfalls to return as the player we expected.

I was singing Ben Camporeale's praises 2 weeks ago, albeit on a muddy ground, but last week on a fast track he looked slow, and his "bombing" was awful.

Maybe he will be "gifted" a game against bottom of the ladder Effendopes. If our season is written off by the GCS game I am sure he will be given a game, if he hasnt had a look before that, but if we are in contention of a Wildcard spot I can't see him jumping the queue, and Lord would be next in line from the VFL for the inside mid role Ben plays.

He did too. Onya Champion.

Yep rest him. That gives him a 3 week lay off till the GWS game (if he doesn't hurt it again at training)

Williams 186cm would be the obvious replacement, because Saad's 178 stature and given his return from injury showed to he's off the pace.

Charleson 183cm would be the only choice if we were "gifting" games for development. I'm a fan, but he hasnt been bashing the door down last 2 weeks like he was first 5 rounds in the VFL

This game is more important than some think.
Danger game. Losing isn't an option.
Its how we win that may, or may not, drive our momentum before the GWS game.

Our Percentage is a weak 87%

If we are serious our aim is Wildcard, we will need percentage to be better than that.
Look at ladder now:

Outside Top 10
Saints are 1 game ahead 102%
North are 1 game ahead 97%
Pies are 1.5 games ahead 100%

Inside Top 10
GWS are 2 games ahead 103%
Crows are 2 games ahead 107%
Lions are 2 games ahead 103%

We have to take every game serious and field our best team without carrying injured players.

We need to win first.

This week, we need to play our best and can win each quarter by 4-5 goals, to prove we can do it for 4 quarters.

We missed the chance to build on much needed percentage against Dogs and Port. Missed opportunity.

I hope we don't miss out this week.
