I dunno, Walshy called him the best leader he's come across in football.
Obviously the results weren't there, but he seems to have had a positive impact on the club and the playing group.
That's gotta count for something?
With the greatest of respect, I read absolutely nothing into these comments from Walsh. I mean he ain’t exactly going to come out and slag him, is he?
I’ll give Walsh credit, he’s far more genuine when he speaks to the media compared to our captain and Weitering. You can actually see him saying what he’s been
instructed to say by the club’s PR department through gritted teeth, he’s sick of the crap but tows the company line.
Also, he’s only previously been coached by Bolton and Teague. Not exactly a strong field for Voss to beat.
I finally had time to watch the full 37 minute interview. I have no doubt that away from footy, Voss is a great bloke and is one of the all time greats on field as a player. But his coaching record and the trail of destruction he’s left at
two clubs as a coach speaks for itself.
For him to come out and say that the playing group right now is in a good place, that he’s left the club in a better place than it was when he started, and that he’s introduced elite training standards to the group is just stubborn delusion at best.
He’s won 12 of the last 40 games as coach and driven out a generational key forward among other talented players. His reign even when we were flying was characterised by wild momentum swings and Jekyll/Hyde performances which he couldn’t solve in 4.5 seasons. I mean like it or not, these are the facts.
Best of luck in whatever he does from here, but I’m glad he’s finally gone. Unfortunately, we now have to pick up the pieces and we’re gonna have some pain in the short term at least before things improve.
