I do agree with you, and deep down, do believe we need an overhaul of the board, but we've also just hired a new CEO and Head of Football. New hires Within 12 months. My questions would be directed to them.

Why did GW keep Voss on for another year? What was the reasoning? Losing talent because of such a decision needs to have some accountability. From the outside looking in - bad decision. Not a good start.
Has CD identified the football department issue(s) and what is the plan moving forward?

One of them would have stayed, for varying reason

I think the question is......................was Wright so wrong sticking with Voss?

Leading 7 out of 8 games at 1/2 time and then coming back from 45+ points down against the reigning Premiers on their home deck, to just get rolled late, would suggest to me that Voss was just a few players short and some quality leaders short of success.

The data says Carlton were rubbish after half time. The data also says they were uber competitive for 2 quarters.

The AFL is full of iffs, buts and maybes, with a heavy dose of shoulda, coulda. Voss wasn't far off the mark, but he is now just another Carlton failure.

Bring in the next punching bag to get tarred and feathered by the fans and the media. :hitcomputer: :hitcomputer: :hitcomputer:

Best of luck Josh. I hope you get all the support you need. Make your mark and show them you are good enough to earn the job in 2027. If you can't do that then.............................................I got nuthin'.

Regards Cazzesman

its all speculation, however ill give GW the benefit of the doubt and suggest there is method to the madness.

I would imagine GW saw a number of steps that need to be considered.

1)History suggests he believed talent development was a priority number one.....therefore move on Curnow first rather than Voss. it was about picks and making a stand that a player (or players...throw in Silvagni and Docherrty) doesn't dictate who is coach.

2) make a decision on the coach. he will have known all along Voss wasn't the right coach, however one step at a time (set up for the draft) and at least give Voss a chance with more football resource.

3) the decision to move on Austin at the same time, links Voss to our list strategy.

re the board, my only issue is the lack of quality football experience. Diesel is not the right person by any stretch. I do give the board credit for appointing GW to replace BC. I would hope that GW and CD is a step up in football experience. ensuring football spohistication is sitting at the board table to act as advocates for GW and CD is necessary in my view.

with respect to the wider remit the board has (governance, strategy and financial strength), it is hard to argue against them doing a good job.

GW & CD are The way forward. We’re beginning to see their impact , after a period of observation and evaluation.
The wave has started and action will continue , it was desperately needed.
So refreshing , action and change.
It’s here now.
Trading a few more players , for extra selections in year the draft will come too.
Head Coach , Football operations and Team List done by end 2027. Then our board of directors Tumultuous and necessary change for CFC, upwards and onwards , live it , history is being made.
Hopefully it will be the end to our football wilderness and helplessness.

The conundrum ...... Tried vs Untried

Time to go down the untried route (once again) ..... no real reason, just not a fan of the ex-coaches out there.

ex coaches rarely work. catching lightning in a bottle twice in a lifetime, doesn't happen often, if at all. hardwick with maybe the best list in the comp is learning this.

GW has to identify the next mitchell, and if he's unavailable. grab the next mcrae. i believe he's the best guy in the league to do this, too.

maybe the common denominator isn't the board, maybe its the fans who demand sook demand sook demand sook ad infinitum...fans who have no patience, who believe in the messiah coach, messiah player, messiah board....Fans who swarm in full of hubris and swarm out full of disgust...

nah, i don't think so. we're not wrong for wanting success. we are a big club, equal most flags. and we haven't had continued success since last century. its not our patience or lack thereof that's out of order here.

we tanked and rebuilt for 5 years, twice pretty much in that time. all without success. the hiring of some of these coaches - bolton, teague, pagan malthouse. has-beens past it, or never were's who weren't capable of it. yet somehow out of them four we didn't hit once.

then you look at hawks, cats, pies and hell, now even the dees with goodwin and now king. those clubs get it right the first time. we haven't got it right in four times, five if you count voss. six with ratten etc.

those are all failed football decisions danny ... to deflect that and somehow blame a frothing fan base starved for success in a whole generation without it - is so completely misguided. a cop out.

That’s just wrong. Fans have been sitting and waiting and even believing when changes occur for 3 decades now.
Even now they have been told to believe in GW and CD. Messiah belief or not….

Love some of your quotes braithy

I really admire Longmire. Ive met him. I've spoken with him. I've seen him in action. I know he's got an amazing memory and mind. He left on his terms after getting his team to a GF (again). He wasn't bereft of energy, ideas and ability when he left. He needed time out. He passed on his legacy and iddeas to Coach in waiting Cox. He needed to recharge. He's a winner. A Premiership Coach. Until Longmire says so, he's not a hasbeen. A hasbeen lacks success. Longmire left at the top of his tree.

But I get what you're saying. Who is the untried coach who is better than sure bet longmire. I'm keen on an untried coach as good as McRae too, but unless we find that coach, I'd go Longmire.

I've often wondered if that was Richmond's issue & then they finally learnt how to deal with it.

But having said that, they did end up with the messiah player who had a massive part in their 3 flags.

but only after they stopped seeing him as the messiah????

Hubris is such a great word and I feel carlton supporters still havent understood how they contribute to carlton's.
Take my brother...please take my brother...still wants the messiah player, the messiah coach...sees out list as better than everyone's and expects to win the fklag every @#$%&! year...and he isn't unusual...so many arguments I've had over the past 25 odd (I mean when can we get an even year) years about how we always this everything will be solved when we get this player or that coach...

They had the Messiah player and a lot of other gun players around him too.

I feel like we're a lot more than a Dustin Martin away from a flag.

From the outside looking in its really difficult to make an assessment on who it should be. Of the retreads, Longmire is the one that catches my attention the most. You'd want to be convinced that he's all in though. If there's any doubt, then you wouldn't touch him. Not interested in most of the others. If we end up with any of Hinkley, Buckley, Goodwin or Adam Simpson, God help us. Just feels like history repeating.

Of the untried, Skipworth seems to have an outstanding CV. Gia has been mentioned for years, but you wonder why others have passed. Kelly and Enright come from success and seem to have built their reputations up.

Overall, I wouldn't have a clue. I'm just willing with every fibre of my being that we somehow finally get it right.

can't see the point in longmire - its just a bit pagan/ malthouse revisited for mine. yes, he made gf's. and then shit the bed in them. maybe thats his ceiling? will he ever get over those gf capitulations, or has that scarred him for life? i'd rather he not try and answer those questions on our dime.

how much energy at his age does he have left? how in tune with the modern game is he? much has changed since he left the game, and so much has changed since he won his only gf in '12.
