Haynes has to come in, ready or not. Young, Derksen, Haynes… buckle up!

Have to resist the urge to push McGovern or Kemp back.

What about Matty Cottrell - can we get him in yet?

Wilson and Charleson aren’t quite there, but they look to be coming into a window of form. Typical for a league-wide bye :banghead:
Both of them need to get a hold of the Filth next weekend.

Don’t think we can bank on Lord coming straight back in. Would be nice though.

Just saw this. Cheers Cru.

I thought Wilson showed some signs but not enough. Ditto Charleson and I’m a Charleson believer but…

Flynn…yep…for Hayward
Haynes…yep…for Weiters

I need to watch the game again

Young as our key defender and expecting to bring in players with less than 10 games experience to move the needle - as Clint Eastwood said in Gran Torino “it’s gonna get @#$%&! ugly”.

It was only a few years a go that we played Melbourne in the finals and got through to a Prelim, and in 2026, when I look at both teams, I am lost to words how the two teams started this year:

Carlton: Lost 3 A Graders: Charlie, TDK & SOS

Melbourne: Lost 3 A Graders: Petracca, Oliver & May. ( Plus Viney has been injured all this year).

YET, Melbourne are 3-1 and we are 1-3. What did the Demons do differently to us?

Well for a start, they said Enough is enough to their Premiership Coach Goodwin and brought in a new Coach with a new Game Style.

Then, their Kids Started to shine and play some good football. Our kids are going no where... They are in fact going backwards. This is all due to recruitment. Most AFL Clubs are bringing in kids who are shinning. Only Carlton have nothing to show for!

Once Again and for the Billionth time, We got sucked into the Savior Mentality. We gave up Valuable first round picks to get pick 2 so we can get a new Savior into the club in Jagga, putting unrealistic expectations on him to perform. It won't be long before we burn him out!

Our Kids are not developing properly. They are either crap to begin with or there is something seriously wrong with how we play them. An Example of that are the Two Campo Boys. Did we just waste 2 picks on two duds who can't kick at all? or are we burning them off in the VFL?

Melbourne brought in 2 players with on field leadership in Steele and Miochek
We brought in fringe players

They added them to Gawn MacDonald and Petty with Viney to come in
They now have players all over the park directing traffic . They also removed their selfish players who played for themselves other than the team

We have gone years with just Cripps and Weiters and no forward half general at all and it is why are forward line is a mess
If you are going to bring in 27 and 28 year old players they need to be leadership material

As a club they appear to be more worried about bringing people to the club who are off field than on field

It depends on whether Haynes is ready to go:

Haynes - L. Young - Newman
Cowan - Derksen - Boyd
O. Hollands - Cerra - E. Hollands
Ainsworth - McKay - McGovern
Byrne - Kemp - Evans
Pittonet - Walsh - Smith

Carroll - Florent - Cripps - Hewett - F. Young

McKay relieves Pittonet at centre bounce, Cripps does the around-the-ground ruckwork. Young sticks to Thilthorpe - if Thilthorpe rucks, he rucks, but otherwise he's key defence.

Carlton will challenge Will Hayward's one match ban for striking.

What’s the point?

I thought the VFL had a bye this week.

Dawson is not exactly Usain Bolt. With application, we should be able to keep him quiet.
Of course, we will play Rankine into form... seriously, he is a problem for us.
I believe Young can keep Thilthorpe to 3 goals which would be a win. Provided, our mids do their job and force bad entries to him. I think he can spoil and take a good contested mark (and then pass straight to an opponent... ).
Fogarty is out - he is the sort of guy who would step up and kick 5 against us from 5 kicks.
If we can somehow find the energy and focus to keep playing the angles, forward handball, keep leading etc... then we are a chance but if we couldn't do that against Richmond, Melbourne or North I can't see how we do it against Adelaide. In Adelaide. In the opening match of Gather Round.

I am generally very optimistic but I won't be backing us to win.
Not until it is mathematically impossible for us to make the 10 at which point the shackles will come off and we'll probably go on a bit of a tear...

In a quarter maybe.

Unless you’re referring to Flyn Young, he could hold him to 3 goals for a game.

Haynes is fine. It's a matter of whether they think he has enough conditioning.
