Pros:

We managed to score after halftime.
Elijah, Kemp, McGovern, Pittonet, Evans.
Good to have Newman back.
Like how Taylor tackles and use the ball.
Boyd was reasonable.

Cons:

Our finishes are becoming a self-fulfilling prophecy.
Outtackled and outpressured. How many of our kicks were smothered?
Who knows whether it's the players, the coach or fitness or the tactics. But effectively hope is gone and another year wasted.
Hard to see any free agents wanting to come.
Not getting enough from our best players: Cripps, Hewett, Walsh, Harry, Weitering. Highest possession tally was 22 disposals. What's happening with our midfield?
Weitering's concussion.
Derksen was poor, but has the excuse of it being his first game.
Umpiring was awful.

What hope have we got against that sort of umpiring.

Right from the word go, it was obvious….

Last qtr Ollie trip, the front on hit, the Evans boundary decision

We wouldn’t have lost either if umpires were fair.

We are their whipping boy.

It’s fkd up.

I know we are our own worst enemies, but I am standing up against for our team

I’m in Singapore but I wasn’t to stand in front of the umpires building and demonstrate against this blatant cheating against Carlton

You are @#$%&! delusional honestly mate.

You’re right.
I shouldn’t have posted this.
I was at a bar in Singapore.
Plenty aussies. A Few BF peeps there
I just read my post without referencing the source….sounds unhinged reading back.

I was posting in front of a bunch of peeps who were spitting chips and all sorts of vitriol….i was having a laugh and cry whilst posting bits n pieces I was hearing….a collage of crap….but I did encourage the hysteria….egged them on….umpires, ( which I agreed with), AFL, Demetriou  penalties, Elliot, Palestinian crisis, wars, conspiracies CIA..…a lot of frothing…..everything blamed except the players and coach.

Blame lies with the list management, players and coach. A lot of bad footy. Was such a shit show. Should’ve won regardless of umpire bias, but we kept shooting ourselves in the foot with a bunch of not even good ordinary players….VFL standard….worse.

I have no idea where we are at. Just have to wait for the dust to settle…may take all season for that. I don’t think sacking Vossy at this stage is a good idea…maybe after half way if things are still stuffed, then see how the list performs under an interim coach.

Sorry you had to read the crap I was hearing. Was my fault encouraging the hysteria, telling them their voice will be heard and typed. Silly silly stuff.

I was sitting amongst Norf members and a few of them were saying similar about the umpires against them.
One in particular was just whining incessantly.
Funny game, football.

Hey there big Al. I hope you enjoyed your day.
Yeah footy is hilarious.
Grass always greener on other side.
Umpires were crap. We were worse.
Feel we are back in 2002 without the injury list.
That makes us worse than 2002.

There were times in the Pagan and Malthouse eras where we used to get belted by 100 points each week. We're not there now, but I don't feel much better.

my Highlight Moments of the Game which proves how Poor we are:

* Hayward: Gave away 2 Free kicks for nothing... Total Stupidity, especially when we had the momentum and kicking away!

* Dereksen & Byrne: Kids who got lost in the game....Not up to AFL standards just yet! They need time.

* Our Aging Midfield: Too Slow- One paced and Crippa's old age is catching up with him!

* When Weitering went down early in the last Q, We were Finished. We had no one that stood up. Young Continues to get Games and is getting worse and worse. We have no Depth to cover for any injuries to key players!

Yep, re Hayward, there's a difference between aggression and ill discipline. You can't whack blokes after they've kicked the ball. He did that TWICE, both times resulting in goals to North.
And both times we had momentum which his ill discipline killed off.
Hayward is an experienced player, he is expected to be better than that FFS !!

Things are never as good as they seem, nor are they ever as bad as they seem... this sucks right now but things will turn...

What is our draft hand likely to look like if we finish bottom two??

we should be able to save a pick and draft walker outright. someone correct me if i'm wrong, but in that case we would have two 1st round picks.

i've heard varying things about the draft. the quality at the top is excellent, but falls away quick? again, someone step in and verify, bcos i'm just regurgitating what i've heard.

Disagree

This is as bad as it seems

We are years off with no guarantee. As the last 10 years have proven.

So many holes on the list now. Our only key forward is a flakey McKay. It takes years just to develop another key forward. Don’t think good ready made key forwards are coming to Carlton in the short term.

Not a good position to be in. Where Carlton is now forced to go down the rebuild path. The last full rebuild undertaken by Geelong was in 1999. Think about that for a minute.

The one thing about those days was I could leave early once we were 60 points down. Record breakingly early in some cases, & completely beat the crowd exiting.

These pricks yesterday made me stay til the end & have to deal with that flower packed walkway to Southern Cross, with kids :banghead: :banghead: :banghead:

How's Voss starting the presser by talking about the Good Friday Appeal to soften the journos?

Call me cynical but did he use sick children to deflect from him?

He spent the first 2:30 talking about the kids... and ended the presser that same way when he was done with the questions.

We all know the relevance of the day... we all know sick kids are more important than an eggball game.
But he's not there to waste a third of the presser talking about something abundantly obvious.

He's a politician, a gaslighter.

He does that every game played on GF. The focus is the kids. We will still be rubbish next week but yesterday was about the kids.

Yes... what annoyed me the most was the way Voss ended the presser

Beaten 7-10 clearances after the 14 minute mark of the last quarter yesterday. Simpkin with 2 clearances and 5 score involvements in that time. LDU with 6 clearances and 7 contested possessions in the last quarter.
Groundhog day. Same thing happened in the previous games as well.
Clearance, contested footy is the only strength we have as a list. It's not just about coaching. Our list composition currently isn't capable of playing different footy IMO. We can have a forward handball game, high handball metres etc which makes us look great. But it comes off the back of winning the ball.
The reality is our mids are having massive drop off segments in the contest after half time and allowing the opposition to totally disarm us by controlling the clearance and contest. Big scoring blocks in short periods of time. Until our midfield group get some consistency in effort and maintain the rage with their area of strength, the same results will occur.

Good to see Cerra get through the game. Easily the second most clearances for us and 2nd most amount of metres gained. With 5 tackles and 5 score involvements, he'll only get better hopefully.

Random stat for the week? We had 3 goal assists in 4 quarters of footy. The top 2 teams on the AFL ladder average 14.7 and 13 per game respectively.

Exactly. Beat or break even with us in clearance, you win.

We have no pathway to winning other than that.

Coach.

We have the list he wants.

Players are mostly shit, but coaching? Worse.

Your pathways are built off that. If you can't win the ball, the best and prettiest of plans are pointless.
It's not an antiquated strength. Top 3 for clearances this year are the back to back premiers, 2nd and 3rd on the ladder. It's OK to have a strength that you rely on. You just can't fold and totally disarm yourself for extensive periods of time and not expect to be punished.

cats, hawks, gws and pies don't need to win the ball from clearance. they take it off you and run the other way.

incidently the 9 game win streak without a ruck in 2023. that was our strategy. let them take the ball drop, and we take them. that whole layer we had has entirely vanished, and it baffles me why. bcos it worked.

that way we can have pitto ruck his 60% gametime, with all the contested and cute set plays (like pitto to walsh and goal) and the rest of the time, we go with cripps in the ruck and move back to taking the ball and moving forward in waves and handball chains ala 2023 all over again

could work? it'd be just nice to see us try something different to the repeated and predictable getting run down from behind once we stop winnng contests
