Always sad to hear of a boyhood Carlton hero passing away. Brian Kekovich played his first game for the Blues round 1 1967. I saw the game and was impressed by Brian and another debutante that day.
A bloke called Alex Jesaulenko.
Due to a back injury Brian only played 34 games for the Blues. IMO had he not been injured he ''coulda been anything''.
Full Forward in the '68 premiership side, he kicked 4 goals out of the Blues 7. I've always thought what made the '68 premiership special was it was the start of a golden era for the club.
And Brian more than just played his part.

He and Jezza debuted 9 days before I was born, I really only remember the 79 and onwards premierships, pity I never saw him play.

I remember my brother taking me to Princes Park and chatting all the way there about a new player,a full forward called Brian Kekovich - must have been in 67 and I was 10. We sat behind the goals and watched him and a kid called Jesaulenko - my brother thought Brian was to be the future star of the comp. My brother and i still chat all things Carlton to this day - but because of those distant days of the 60's I owe him a huge debt - lugging me around from ground to ground via tram and train to watch our beloved Blues - me 10 and 11, him - 17/18. Suburban footy! My brother was heartbroken when the back injury ruined Brian's career.

My first VFL game was to the 1968 GF
Despite living next to Teddy Whitten, I didn’t have a team till that very day.
Our boarder took me. He was a Bombers fan.
I didn’t like him that day and barracked for Carlton
Brian Kekovich was my hero in that game. Blew me away.
Big guy. Big kick. Big goals.
Saddens me to this day his body let him down.
Always hoped he’d come back, but didn’t.
He really could have been anything.
Always will be a Carlton hero.

Yeah , agree with all of you blokes . That old saying about the bloke who won the game off his own boot . Reckon Brian Kekovich just about did that in the 68 GF . 4 of our 8 goals . It was a windy blustery day . One of those days where you couldn't buy a goal . We dominated play but just kept kicking points . Kekovich was the only bloke who looked like kicking a goal . As others have mentioned he was a booming kick . And he looked like a footballer . An impressive athlete if you ever saw one . So thanks Brian , as far as I'm concerned he virtually won the game off his own boot. And the 68 Grand Final was special to me coz it was the first Premiership that I saw from a Carlton side . I was born September 1947 and a week after I was born we won the Flag . Didn't see that of course but I was there front and centre in 1968 .
