As BV suggested a while back, Ethan Philips is worth a chance. Maybe on the Rookie list. 26 and 197 cm. Good Hands. Current VFL B&F winner in 2025. With only Weiters and Young as KPP size he might be an okay backup/depth. Just a thought.

Whilst HOK recovers and Dean gets up to speed in 2026.

Collingwood has proven a well drilled team can get by with undersized Forwards. It is all about getting 1 on 1’s and hitting targets going forward. It will be interesting to see how the game structure changes.

HOF and Harry just need to bring it to ground if they can’t mark it. Capt Obvious would suggest Not being out marked, should be the golden rule.

Not to mention some radical ideas for a Carlton forward line. Movement, leads, dummy leads, more leads, more movement, blocks for teammates.

Yes Cazz , for sure give Ethan Philips a crack . Like all good packmen he reads the ball . Great anticipation . The knock on Philipps is his kicking apparently . To me he seems to kick the ball ok so ii dunno . One thing about Philips is he always chooses the right option . Stuffed if I know why we haven't listed him already . A very good player for mine . The interesting one will be Sam Paea . He played three games with us and got better every week . In his last he finished up with eighteen possessions at fullback second only to Elijah Hollands . Paea is a superb kick of a football . Apparently coming back next season . Spoke to his Dad last week and he could not speak highly enough about the Club and the people running it . Huge wrap for Torin Baker . Great to hear a bit of first hand feedback hey Cazz . The place is in far better shape than many would have you believe .

Great interview post draft with Chris Davies by the Blue Abroad team. Explains quite a lot of what happened today and this past week (and future).

If I’m counting it right (no certainty), we currently have 38 players under contract.

Primary: 32
Cat A: 4 - O’Keeffe, Lord, Carroll, Evans
Cat B: 2 - Monahan, Duffy

We already have six names to complete the list:

Primary: McGovern & Elijah (unlikely) are waiting for deals. Dean & Ison will be drafted.
Cat A: O’Keeffe can be promoted to fill Elijah’s spot. Charleson, White & Young are hoping to re-sign.

That would take us to the 36 + 6 profile that we’ve had previously.

HOWEVER, I don’t think that’s how we’ll finish. Because, for a team with only two live picks (assuming the above), we’re way overstocked on points.

HOF injured

That's a lot of height we've lost in one preseason. 2026 is going to b a tough slog I think

Very impressive man . Seems super smart . He gives me Neil Craig vibes with a touch of David Parkin about him . And despite being a brainiac he seems to have the common touch . And was a Carlton supporter as a boy growing up . Really like this bloke .

We won a flag with Mark Maclure (188cm) at Centre Half Forward and Peter (185cm) Brown at Full Forward in 1979 and a bunch of Mosquitos at their feet.

But I agree we have lost a lot of height and if either of McKay or Weitering get injured we’re pretty much [REDACTED].

Frankie I knew.
The Charleson news escaped me - which makes it obscure than the random Irish newspaper that scooped the Monahan re-signing.

The news about the Charla was discussed at very back end of gettable boys piece on AFL website
Im a fan of the Charla and glad he got re-signed nice disposal and a turn of pace and doesnt seem to panic with ball in hand
A bit stiff not to get a game in seniors at the end of last year

Charlie kicked 32 goals this year from 18 games.
Hayward kicked 29 from 20. Ainswerth 23 goals.
I am confident we will more than cover for Curnow with better spread of goal kickers, better forward defence, and less sooking. And a bit more of the Sydney work ethic won’t go astray either.
With Curnow gone, Voss and the players up the field will be forced to look more for a leading player rather than just bomb it long.

And let’s see how we use our first round picks leading up to and potentially during the draft.

Whilst I would have loved to get Humphrey, I think we tend to be too focused on bringing in star players.
We’ve had the equal of any team’s star players over the past 5 years. What we’ve been missing is that next tier and evenness across the field, and depth. That is what we have brought in during this trade period IMO. And we’ve shored up picks for Walker and given ourselves lots of scope for upcoming and future trading periods and drafts.

Look, we’re fighting a tank war and turning up with sticks and stones.

The fact that Gold Coast can TRADE OUT a bunch of 1st Round picks to get Petracca and STILL get all those academy players with picks 15, 18, 24 etc proves that the system is set up for Queensland teams.

They’re going to get Zeke Uwland (should be pick 1) by handing over a selection of average picks.

The premiership race is really between Brisbane & Gold Coast… maybe GWS. The rest are there for the ride.

So with this in mind, I get why Carlton are willing to trade out Curnow. We’re not “in the premiership window” so get assets together to get high end quality in Walker etc.

However, what annoys me is getting list cloggers. They got Fantasia.. persevered with him when really it was stupid to even recruit him. Ditto Hollands. That’s a fail in terms of the baggage he had with him.
Carlton are not in the position to have so many misses with their selections.

The Swans players are likely just more list cloggers. I have little faith in the trading Carlton does as they often get fringe players of limited input.
