The side is flexible enough for Voss to move the pieces around to get the match ups right and play to our strengths. Those who are always screaming for Plan B should be happy!
I like the addition of Boyd.
Huh, can you explain.
We dropped a wing and an inside mid for a back pocket and small forward.
I'm failing to see the flexibility in this when we are having midfield issues both on D50 rebounds and F50 entries.
Plan B would be dropping some talls and/or adding speed and making it more of a run and carry team IMO.
I think at the most we have upgraded some positions but even then, I would've dropped Acres before Campo.
Definitely not a plan B scenario.
L Campo was struggling to run out the game and was subbed off last week. Not unexpected as it is his first season. He has showed glimpses he can play so going back to the twos , who play Footscray in a scratch match, is not a bad thing. As for wings we have Acres, Walsh, Docherty, Hollands and Cottrell who can all play wing, as well as Cerra. How many choices do you want?
Lord came on as sub in the last quarter. Why do we need another inside mid. Crippa, Hewett, Walsh and Cerra can all play that role. Lord also needs a full game, which he will get in the two's.
What we lacked last week were options across half back with speed - hence the inclusion of Boyd which should enable more run and carry as you requested.
I expect Evans to be the sub who when on the ground would enable Williams and Motlop to play higher.
I will be at the ground cheering the boys on. Lets hope for a fairer go by the umpires.
GO BLUES!
Fair point.
However, I think we lacked a little more than options on HB.
I agree Boyd will be an upgrade and a better addition to HB, but I would've rather seen him replace Cowan.
I also agree that Campo is still building his tank, but we persisted with Ollie going through the same problem. Both elite runners and Campo kicking at 66% last week.
Our wings are not as good as we like to think.
Hollands is one sided defensive player and is why he has been moved back to where he plays his best footy. No longer a wing.
Acres has been absolute rubbish so far. Would've been dropped in any of the top teams. At the most I would've had him as a sub for Campo this week.
Doc is well and truly off the pace as we have seen, hopefully he plays back in form.
Cottrell has been ok, it'll be good to see him on the wings again to see if he has fixed his kicking issues and is more damaging going forward.
Walsh should be on the wing, he plays his best footy there, but with Lord out that won't happen now.
Campo and Walsh on the wings with Cottrell rotating or at HF and Acres as sub would've given us the opportunity for massive amounts of drive and running power all game.
Maybe Evans will be played as an inside mid for the last quarter or Motlop will, he's already got 5 CBAs this season.
Still not sure on this but willing to see it play out some more.
Either way I still don't see any of this as a plan B.
I will be watching from my armchair.
