Tend to agree. I've complained we've been a bit too reliant on him at stages this year, but I just have a feeling he will dominate against St Kilda, & if that wins us this game I'll take it in a heartbeat

I wouldn't be surprised if Stocker puts his hand up for the job on Cripps. I believe he's uncontracted so he'd be looking to save his career with a new role.
Personally, I hope Cripps obliterates him.

Cincottas role will be interesting. The Saints derive a higher percentage of scores from their back half than any other team and Jack Sinclair is involved in 29% of their scores. So I'd give that job to Cincotta. But have a plan for Wanganeen Milera as well. The kid is a star and he's very high up in the rebound 50 and metres gained per game. Shut those 2 down, make sure Kemp limits Wilkies presence and it will go a long way to victory.

The person with the biggest role is Pittonet. Marshall could destroy him around the ground. Pitto has shown that he's not great at getting back to prevent his opponent impacting previously so we need a huge effort from him. Or the coaches need a plan to handover to Young when Marshall drifts forward.

The most obvious improvement i saw last week was our guarding of the loose player. Hawthorn destroyed us with uncontested marks and switching the play. Our judgement on guarding space (teasing distance) was pathetic and lazy. Last week was better. We'll need that again. The Saints will try to go around our zone instead of kicking down the line. We have to be at our best with concentration and effort.

I'm not overly confident but this is our shot at it. I wouldn't be relying on Port to win. Kick straight, take your chances when you have momentum and work hard for four quarters. If we can do that, we'll be a good chance.

I'm kind of relieved, it just didn't feel very convincing and I really don't want us going back to shit-on-a-stick hero-ball.

yeah hero ball was definitely a thing. it was a breath of fresh air to see us steer away from that. plus, i'm not sure charlie has laid a single tackle all year - so the whole team defense improved immensely. a far more rounded game.


i think we'll trounce the saints with our new look 'team ball'. as long as the kids didn't play their gf last round, and they back it up with the same energy.

I'd rather be sure Charlie is fit to play footy, and not just fit for statue.

Gov's body is just ... annoying ... unreliable ... who knows if he plays or not?
Could easily be selected to play and pull out an hour before start of game.
Can't afford to lose him given Marchbank has likely finished his Carlton charter, and our need for Kemp at FF.

Like I said in an earlier post, I'm OK with the team that ran out last week.

Last week we were ythe underdogs against a bottom 4 team and won by 10 goals.

Strangely enough I feel more confident with Charlie out. I was concerned we'd revert to predictable "bomb it long to Charlie" if he was in and the saints would mop up the long ball and rebound all day.

So I am expecting Saad in and Binns out.
Emergencies to be Binns, Lemmey, and Fantasia.
If Durdin fails his test then Fantasia in too.
Edit: Moir to be sub again.

If Gov misses does Lemmey get a game?

Maybe, Kennedy can move to defence and Lemmey can be second ruck/fwd.
Or Ollie stays in defence and Binns is back in.

Just musing here, but is the comp so even and teams going in month-long peaks and troughs not just a conditioning thing, but more a case of the game becoming so tactical that any gameplan, no matter how good, will eventually be figured out and counter-attacked? Think of Collingwood's title defence, Brisbane being hopeless then a pile of ACLs then unbeatable and now shaky again, us looking like prem equal faves then spoonesque, Sydney incredible then incredibly bad. That's on the macro scale, then you go micro... we found one in ZWill the forward, but each week his influence waned. Cinc was the secret weapon, then the tag gradually lost its magic.

West Coast would have known something unorthodox was coming, in the end it was Kemp as KPF plus OHollands in defence and a few other tweaks. They couldn't handle it, but Saints have had a week to review and will have a plan. Should we scupper their plans by, say, playing Lemmey and Gov forward. Saad forward, Moir back, maybe swap ZWill and EHoll? Or stick with what we're doing and hope that a proper counter strategy takes a month rather than a week to bear fruit, per trends seen across the league all week?
