Cerra (sub) in for C.Durdin would be my only change.

For team balance, I think one of Cerra, Hewitt or Kennedy needs to be sub. Playing Cerra as sub might be a good way to ease him back in.

C.Durdin needs a full game in the reserves after being sub the past two games with a bye in between. Fantasia is doing enough to keep Motlop out of the side just at the moment. I don’t mind the idea of keeping Motlop hungry and making him fight for his spot.

Cerra has missed most of the season. He needs to play. I’d rather him play a full game in the reserves than come on for 15 mins in the last quarter.

His hammy is either ready or it’s not. If it’s not, take another week. If it is, he starts ahead of Fantasia. There is nothing Fantasia is doing that Cerra can’t do better.

Cerra is a very good player but he plays a different role to Fantasia. If Cerra is coming into the 22, I think Kennedy or Hewitt needs to be sub to avoid disrupting the current balance. Personally, I think those two are playing well enough to ease Cerra back in as sub. He doesn’t need to play VFL.

He needs minutes and match fitness. The sub role is essentially another week without playing. Kennedy and Cerra can rotate mid/forward and absorb Fantasia’s role

There is nothing Fantasia is doing that either of these two can’t do

I can’t agree. Cerra & Kennedy are not suited to the very structured role Fantasia is playing. We want them hunting - not stuck in starvation corner.

If we’re going to play Cerra, Kennedy, Hewitt & E.Hollands in the 22 then I reckon it’s more likely that Cowan makes way and Kennedy joins the defence group. That’s not my preference but given our current structure, I would be puzzled if we omitted Fantasia - unless it’s to bring in a like role-player (eg. Motlop, Cunningham, C.Durdin).

Anyway, just my opinion

I just think you play your best players. I don't think Orazio is doing such a difficult role that Cerra/Kennedy can't do it better and have more impact on the game.

I also don't think Orazio is being instructed to stay away from the ball. Starvation corner is not by design, IMO

Cerra's missed so much footy. But I imagine they'd like him in this week to be ready for GWS/WBD.

Dylan Grimes is out for them (for the season).

I think you pick your best player for the role.

To my uneducated eye, Fantasia’s role seems to be to push up the ground and put on the jets when we get possession. The ball moves so fast these days that it’s structurally important to have those players who can run back and forward at speed. There is a lot of unrewarded running for players in that role.

I love Cerra & Kennedy, but they are not made for those roles. They are contest players. I’d be reluctant to change our mid/forward profile while we’re doing well in scores from turnover and forward pressure.

That’s not to say Fantasia’s spot is safe when Cottrell is ready to return.

I agree, the danger with just playing your best players - think Pitto - he was playing really well but were we balanced? I'd say no and that led to issues - our 4th quarter surging is due as much to balance as fitness in IMHO. So when Cerra comes in I think Kennedy becomes a case to be looked at for team balance. At that is nothing against Kennedy, its just about balance, footspeed, spread etc.

Surely there’s a “pecking order”…and Cerra is above
at least 2-3 players…simple…!

the Cotters and Martin calls are a bit tougher…!

kindest regards tommi

I reckon In: Cotters is the easier call because Fantasia is filling in for him (and doing okay, but not as good as the original). Cerra is a tough one because the obvious call was to drop either Hewett or Kennedy to sub, but they've both played great games the last few weeks.

i think he'll come in for kennedy. it's not a knock and its not kennedy's fault either. cerra provides the kind of run and polish we'll need to compete with pies and swans come finals. and that's where voss will be at, fine tuning everything for a finals tilt.

maybe lions are a finals smoky, but we need more run if we're going to dust swans or pies. are there ay other teams in the 8 that would worry us?

if we stay healthy we'll win the flag

Kennedy was in the coaches votes for last match, we won’t be dropping him. Fantasia or Durdin will make way.

it'll be like for like - kennedy or hewett, i'd go kennedy. fantasia makes way for cotteril when he's ready and eventually motlop for durdin, and that's us.

cerra can't fill in durdin or fantasia, and we can't roll with 100 mids, espesh when hewett and kennedy bring similar size, speed and skills.

yeah but where is Jack Martin in all this?

i’d take Cerra in for Fantasia out every week of the year and then some.

Cerra wouldn’t be asked to do Fantasia’s role like for like, if that’s the only
change made, but the game day coaches would jiggle roles around to make Cerra one of the main midfield rotations.

guessinf Hewitt or Kennedy goes forward for more minutes to make room for Cerra who focus more on defensive transition (defending miss in back half and then part of our patterns running it out with handball chains).

depending on matchups etc.

getting the matchups right has been a big part of the turn around, as has training it week in and week out, building belief.

speaking of defensive transition, our ball use has gone to a new level in the last few weeks. half a dozen players or more which have been clean as a whistle “one touch” players or hand balling under tackle pressure. amazing to see this turn around and confidence in their teammates and their own disposal skills. occasional overconfidence but i’d rather see that than timidity.
