I hope he burns it up and will do better if starting but nervous about Motlop in finals. He had negative fantasy points on Friday and just looked out bodied.
What about pushing Cotts to half forward and bringing Ollie in on the wing.JSOS or Kennedy for the other forward and Dow the sub.

Dropping Motlop altogether did cross my mind but now reckon he starts. Think it'll be a close low scoring game. He is the type who could very well kick 3 goals from 5 kicks. In a tight low scoring game, that could be the difference.

This article largely rehashes what’s been said already in this thread.

https://www.theage.com.au/sport/afl/sem ... .html?btis

Some interesting stuff about JSOS

Quote:
Silvagni was unavailable for selection for the first week of finals after suffering a knee sprain in his VFL return from the same injury at AFL level in round 19, but Walsh said he was tracking well in his recovery.

“I think he had a session yesterday [Saturday], which is usually a game load, and if you pull up well from that, I think you’re in a position to train for the rest of the week and put your hand up for selection,” Walsh told reporters.

So JSOS apparently didn’t play the practice match but did have a solid trading session.

Melbourne need to choose between Brown, Schache and Grundy.

The game situation was against him, but he created a contest when asked.

I can see why they went with a small forward, given Martin went behind the ball at the death. But, I think the sub needs to have a few more strings to his bow.

With H and Jack out, I think JSOS and Kennedy could be a better duo to bring in against May and Lever.

Bringing in Motlop still allows May and Lever to double team Charlie. I don't think they have that luxury with Kennedy inside 50.

If Charlie and one of JSOS or Kennedy lead towards the 50 and drag May, Lever, and another defender with them, we could end up with a mismatch in the goal square.

Eventually, Lever will have to start chopping out other blokes, and May will be forced to deal with Charlie 1 on 1.

Alternatively, we could move McGovern forward and bring Boyd in. With van Rooyen out, we could back Weiters to deal with Grundy by himself, and Marchbank or Kemp to deal with Fritsch. The other is the intercepter. I think we're still plenty tall enough for Melbourne's forward line without McGovern.

Kennedy or Motlop as sub in case it all goes pear shaped and we need to move McGovern back. :P

Very confident.

I thought we got the nerves out of the way and will take a lot of confidence into next week. Swans were given opportunities by our mistakes that kept them in it. I thought McKay's two easy misses really hurt us

When we were up early and playing our game the Swans only kicked one goal and that was from our mistake.

Selection will be interesting. Two forced changes. McKay & Martin

It will be a clear night so I would add a bit more run. Acres proved how important is was to have a wing that can cover so much ground. Hollands has to be a serious consideration. Docherty for all his talent and effort doesn't cover the ground as much (not many do) and is better elsewhere

Dow would be my sub. A mid as a sub is the best option. Motlop comes into 22

The Two rucks stay. Can't change now especially with McKay out and Jack not having much game time.

Kennedy is the best option for Martin IMO. He is that midsize, tough, can mark and kick a goal. He has played this role before. Can even help with mid minutes and Cripps can go forward if needed.

I think we will address a number of little issues from the weekend and be much better. Walsh & Cerra will get better and both were very good.

i think martin is a bridge too far. we don't have anyone like him. Melbourne defence will eat up charlie and there's literally no one else they have to be concerned with. kennedy just doesn't get up the ground fast enough both to present, and to apply pressure.

it's going to be a great, close, and mega stressful game.

Having watched Melbourne on Thursday I don't rate thier forward line.

These are the moves that win finals.

tbh ... he's a solid option upfront. marchbank outplayed him on friday. i'd bring marchbank in to gov's role, boyd into the marchbank role adn gov up front and get him to play wide and keep the width on the F50 like martin does.

he can take a mark and is maybe our best kick in the team.

i think this friday it's time to do something radical, something melbourne won't expect and won't plan for.

Whomever plays has to make Lever accountable. JSOS seems the obvious choice, but I wonder if Marchbank might slip forward from time to time. Melbourne forwardline should be accounted for by Weits, McGov and Kempy, as the key talls.

Maybe a 3 way rotation of JSOS, Marchy and TDK up forward just to keep the Demons guessing. Hopefully Charlie can run May ragged. I suspect if will be JSOS and Mots in for Harry and Jack.

Regards Cazzesman

of all our backs who could go forward, gov is the only one to my knowledge that's actually had afl minutes up front?

we'll need someone up there who can stretch the defence and clunk a mark.

if sos isn't fit, even more so.

Kemp hasn't played forward at AFL level?
Certainly had a run there at VFL.
Both Gov and Kemp are guys who were struggling forward and thrown back to find their feet. In both cases it's working from a confidence perspective. Unknown how either of them would fare if thrown forward again.
