FWIW, the Champion Data guy agrees with BV. H just needs to ruck for 5 min a quarter. Let TDK do the rest of the work.
I'm not as convinced myself, so lets see what the selectors come up with.
https://www.sen.com.au/news/2023/09/05/ ... g-carlton/Hoyne says the Blues should stick with that mix, saying Tom De Koning has had an excellent six weeks in the ruck.
“I just want to put this on the agenda for Carlton supporters as well,” he said.
“His best position, the last six weeks, he is clearly a ruckman. He is not a forward.
“I would not be playing Pittonet. I would be keeping this really simple. Let this guy go.
“As a ruckman over the last six weeks he’s been the eighth best ruckman in the competition. As a forward, sixth worst forward in the competition.
“Just put Harry McKay in the ruck for five minutes per quarter. The second ruck role, we talk about it a lot, it’s 20 minutes a game. Don’t lose sleep over it.”
This is an enormous swing in two months, with Hoyne saying mid-season that Pittonet statistically was a significantly better ruckman than De Koning. The young Blue has clearly broken out since re-signing.
I was just about to post this.
The concept is what Farmer and BV have supported for a while.
Having said BV and Braithy have also suggested dropping Harry, and Farmer raised the question too given the wet.
You can't have it both ways, but point made.
I just can't see Vossy using Harry as a battering ram for 20 minutes of the game, whilst a fatigued TDK takes on CHF role, or FF role. Charlie will still be double teamed whilst Rampe bumps a tired TDK off his line and away they go back to the other end. Swans game is a turnover game.
Can't wait to see team selection at 6pm tomorrow.
If its one ruck, I can see the reasoning.
If its 2 rucks, I can see the reasoning.
Harry wont be dropped and that's a given.
Makes selection bloody exciting either way, coz, either way we will smash them at the coal face.
