Methamatically possible we've already made it.
Needs a couple of upsets but not too far of a stretch

It's a tad optimistic, but I tend to agree if a few results go our way.

It's a pity that Geelong and the Swans won on the weekend.
If they both lost then there would be a fair chance that we would have already made it.

I would have liked Geelong and Essendon* to lose.
But I’m happy Swans won b/c it put GWS behind us.

Not only will we play Finals, possibly winning 10 games in a row to make us 4th or 5th, we are looking a likely proposition to win a Grand Final.

Quote:
Montagna said the Blues’ style of play under Voss in recent weeks had him bullish about the side’s prospects in September.

“It‘s not about your ladder position at this time of year, it’s about how you’re playing. So why not the Blues?”, he said on Fox Footy’s The First Crack.

“They’ve won seven on the trot, the first time since 2000 when they won 13 in a row. They are the hottest team in the competition along with Melbourne right now, they are playing some scintillating football.

“You go, ‘If any team can win it from outside the top four’ ... they’ve all got some flaws and some slight concerns. Why can’t Carlton do it with the way that they are playing?”

The Blues trailed by 22 points at half-time before rallying to topple the Saints.

Impressively, the win came despite the absence of stars Sam Walsh, Adam Cerra and Harry McKay.

Carlton’s ability to win “in a different way” impressed Montagna.

“I think they’re built for finals. Not just physically and the players they’ve got, but what they’ve been through over the last two years, what hasn’t killed them has made them stronger,” he said.

I won a lot of money from Carlton supporters in 1999, and I've been cleaning up since the Hawks game too.

Bring on the Dees. We owe them.

1 win will do it.

Free hit this week - Melbourne will be tough without Cerra and Walsh.

4th or 4th, that's a tough choice.

We will take it on as it is a free hit.
Dow will put the Dees to the sword.
Blues by 24.

 Fixed. 4th or 5th

Just make the Finals first, and the rest will look after itself.

I think we're doing everything right, just like we were doing everything wrong not that long ago!

However, I'm still a bit cautious on the 'stumbling' Pies, Power & Lions. I reckon the Pies at least are doing an extra pre-season load to prepare them for the finals. Which is why they are looking a bit sluggish. Don't get me wrong - we beat them fair and square: if they are doing extra training loads, it was more than offset by our injury list against their full squad.

If we beat the Demons this week than I'll definitely have an extra pep in my step and I'll be confident going into the finals (assuming of course we don't then drop the last two matches but if we beat the Dees, I can't see us dropping the last two...).

Even beating the Saints has given me a lot more confidence - a game we'd typically drop, given the set up and the ready excuses of injuries. But, we are playing with much better system and mental strength now than we were a year ago.

I'm just not reading too much into the top teams looking a bit wobbly. Yet...

The Age are of the view the Carlton - GWS game could decide whether the Blues make finals

I am not sure that is right

I would have thought if we lose to Melbourne and beat GC we will be in, most likely?

Actually, I have just had a look.
If we lose to Melb and beat GC, it could very well come down to the last game against GWS.

And if we lose to GWS, there is a fair chance Geelong and Sydney will be on the same number of wins as us and with similar %.

So it could mean Carlton, Geelong and Sydney are fighting it out for the last 2 spots in the top 8. Cats' % will likely be superior to ours and Swans' % could be close to ours.

AFL have scheduled our game against GWS as the last game of the round.
Maybe they do indeed think it could come down to the wire, again !

Best we beat Melbourne this weekend.

One more win should almost definitely get us in, along with Geelong, Dogs, GWS.

Sydney play GC at home, Adelaide away, Melbourne at home. You’d give them GC, the other two they’ll probably start underdogs, but their form is solid.

If they win 2/3, we’ll probably get them on percentage. Hard to see them making up 6%. So they’ll most likely need to win all 3, in which case we will need to win 2/3.

Alternatively if GWS only win one more we’ll stay above them and both us and Sydney would make it

I think this is how it goes:

1 win will do it, if teams 6-11 also win 1-2 games, and if Geelong and Sydney win 2 we need better % depending on who else wins what games (currently behind Geelong but ahead of Sydney).

2 wins will mean teams 6-11 need to win all 3 and we need better % than Geelong AND Sydney.

Teams currently 5-11 are playing each other several times (Carl/GWS, Geel/StK, Geel/WBD) so unless we get more draws there will be teams in that range definitely losing games.

Other notable games
Geel play Coll this round.
GWS play Port away.

I think the Swans are a danger actually.
They play Suns at home, Adel away (who may be out of contention by then) and Melbourne at home (could be meaningless for Melbourne).

Clear as mud...

I'm so confused now

I was thinking it'd be best if Syd beat GC, meaning the suns would be out of contention by the time they play us.
