Oh yeahhhh...........

i've had it RIGHT up to here...........(puts hand ON head....indicating
complete and utter frustration)...........!

what the HELL.......do you guys sing.......?

send US......?

or send UP.......?

i know we've had this little doozy before.........but much
like my night with Rita Santalucia on our French
Island school camp......when as 16 year olds we were
fumbling around in our sleeping bags.........!

i was pretty sure good stuff went down......she insisted
she was in her sleeping bag the whole time...........!

i never really found out what DID happen that night.........
it's all a bit of a mystery...............!

much like our club song...........!

the other night when watching the 1979 Grand Final
Premiership winning Grand Final best team of the
year the ball was in Grand Final..........replay........i couldn't help
myself.....(of course).....and started singing the song........!

much to the dismay of a couple of "sports" hating
mates of mine.........(yes they're out there)........and when
i got to "that" bit.......there it was...........send US.......!

and i'm thinking......oh kay.........but what about my
Carlton Football Club song cd........i'm pretty sure
that had UP......so i checked....there it was......UP........!

it's the one by the Fable singers.......!

so today i went to the official site.......and checked in on their
"club song" bit.........and there it was...........send US.........!

now........i don't need to tell you folk......i'm fragile
enough as it is.....it doesn't take much to send me over the
edge a little..........!

any more than two messages on my arnswering machine......
and i'm patting down my forehead with a tissue........!

you don't want to see me when i'm on the home phone.......
and my mobile rings...........!

SO........a little help please........i really need closure on this......
i'm not ringing the club.......i'm asking YOU.......the people.......
the grass roots.......the supporrrr...heehee....roooots......
ummmm sorry...............!

what say people..........?

kindest regards tommi

and if your out there Rita Santalucia...........they were your
hands darling.........your hands.............!

as if i don't know what my hands feel like..............!

Sorry..........

and another thing........it's such an important part of
the song.......you know........the end
of the line where there is emphasis........!

they like to send UP........
we'll keep our end UP.........!

kindest regards tommi

apologies to anyone out there with more important
things to do today.............!

I wonder whether it was "send up" when we had U19's & reserves and it refers to players going "up" to the seniors.

Well when we were getting them from the Bendigo League it would have been "send down".

When we were getting them from SA & WA it would have been "send across".

:P

Its definitely send UP for me. I'll never sing it any other way, I don't care what they publish anywhere else.

it's always been send US, ends UP for me.

i remember wheni was about 12, writing to the club asking for the song words and it was send US and ends UP (which makes more sense in my mind).

What the hell does send UP mean?

Carlton Football Club Theme Song

We are the Navy Blues,
We are the old dark Navy Blues,
We’re the team that never lets you down,
We’re the only team old Carlton knows,
With all the champions they like to send us,
We’ll keep our end up.

And they will know that they’ve been playing
Against the famous old dark Blues.

Surely this has to be the definitive answer does it not?

Hey Cee Boy.........

i agree........but why is there confusion.......?

we even have one of our mods......Bradley......telling
us it's UP.....and will always be UP.........!

why is there confusion.........that's the big one for me.........!

kindest reegards tommi

and why is my Carlton Football Club Song cd..........saying
UP......it's one of those ubiquitous club song cds with the blue
cover and the oval shaped white thing in the midle........!

it has a sticker that says...."original theme"....including
up there cazaly.........!

now.......why would the club allow this to be released
if it's wrong........and if it was right and it's changed.....when
did it change and why were we not told..........?

am i letting this get to me............?

i feel as if i'm letting it get to me..........but i just can't stop.............!

Yeah, I was going to look up my CD when I got home. If that is different then maybe we are living in some sort of short-haired Gwyneth parallel universe.

Scary!

tommi, hope you don't mind, but I've added a poll … if the Club can't decide then let up, I mean us, do it for them. :P

It is UP, it has always been UP and I can't stand it when the actual players sing US ...it shits me to tears.

'We are the champions, they like to send UP"
"We'll keep our end UP"

Compared to this crappyness...

"We've all the champions, they like to send US" (send us..? Where too?)
"We'll keep our ends UP"

I used to think that it was "us", but listen to the song next time we win (I know you could be waiting a while  ).

It is "Up".

It refers to "sending up" players from our lower teams into the seniors.

Also, it is "keep our end up" not "keep our ends up".

I know we bent over and assumed the position in quite a few games last year, but I hardly think we would put that in our club song.

It means to make fun of. Which makes sense cos everyone would want to take the piss out of us cos we are so good.

Whereas send us..means absolutely zilch.

On my 1960's Herald Privilege Record it is "UP".

Great versions of the song by Smacka Fitzgibbon and also Frank Traynor and the Jazz Preachers. There is also a fantastic oral history of the club on the record which is nice as it is rather modest because at that stage we had 'only' won 8 premierships and were in the middle of a long premiership drought.
