What does Kemp look like?

I think he’s another one of SOS’ first rounders

He stockpiled them. Kemp was a bargain, as was Stocker…..

YOUD THINK THE CLUB WOULD DO BETTER keeping us informed about how our first rounders are tracking.

It’s embarrassing to hide our biggest investments from the stakeholders in the club

About 6 foot 3, athletic build, Caucasian, short brown hair. Let us know if you find him, we have a few questions.

As mentioned maybe 1000 people there today.

First time at training in a long while. I think Malthouse was there last time I was.

I missed the first 20 minutes or so. It was a very light session. A bit of match play using goals on the wings for a tighter contest.

I love watching Saad move through traffic. Just finds spaces where they don’t exist.

Docherty looks great.

Walsh was doing timed laps. If you didn’t know he’d been injured you wouldn’t know. He looks ready to run through a brick wall though that’s nothing new.

Highlight of the session for me (other than catching up with CK) was watching Binns. While the match play was going on Binns, Owies and Honey were shooting for goal at the big blue box end (doesn’t that just roll off the tongue?). Binns is a beautiful kick. He was taking shots from 40-50 metres out and then some from the pocket and some around the corner and others picking the ball up off the ground on the run. I wasn’t counting but it wouldn’t surprise me if he kicked about 28.2 including a poster. I’m sure in the heat of a game that’ll drop but it just looks easy for him and although I think we saw him as a winger maybe he’ll be that smaller forward option we haven’t quite nailed.

As for Kemp?

Um… what’s a Kemp?

No sign of Charlie either.

Great to see Ed out there. Not sure how much game time he’ll get this year but I love the guy. After the match play he was doing a drill where a coach would throw the ball up or out and Ed would collect it before delivering to a leading player in the forward 50. I wish he kicked like that in games. Hardly missed!

One last thing…

Our grandstand names are shit. I know the Legends Stand was named to honour those who donated and the Heroes Stand was a way of removing Elliott’s name from the ground but having lost the Heatley Stand only the Gardiner has any real connection with our history and the Big Box Building End doesn’t really do it for me.

Time to start afresh (other than the Gardiner). Let’s have a club competition or vote to rename the stands and the ends of the ground using names of CFC greats. We could have a panel tasked with coming up with some options and go from there.

Here’s my suggestions (having only just thought of this).

Each end is named after our greatest goal kickers…

The Vallence End
The Kernahan End

Name some other parts of the ground after significant events…

The Bosustow Pocket
The Bradley Wing
The Milburn Bench
Etc.

Most importantly the Legends and Heroes grandstands. Big Nick already has the medal so I left him out.

The Jesaulenko Stand
The Doull Stand

They’re just some quick suggestions.

Others welcome!

Look for a place that broadcasts ABC Australia, used to be Australian Network TV and always broadcasts the major afl games. I’ve used it to watch Carlton all over Asia over the years from Beijing to Bali to Singapore….

When I travel I use the Watch AFL website or app. Only $24 a month and has all the AFL including shows on Foxtel etc

Kayo won't work with VPN

So it sounds like Prestia will play but probably not Short.
And I reckon Lynch will be a bit underdone, just pushing to get him to the start line in round 1 even if he’s not fully Cherry ripe (I’ll of course eat my words if he kicks 7 in the first half…).
We’ll probably go in with McGovern and Martin although I don’t believe they are underdone - I’m hoping they have been primed to perform from Game 1, more being held back than pushed forward.
Motlop and maybe Durdin under an injury cloud if they play.
Personally I wouldn’t risk Motlop if there’s any doubt - a calf can feel fine until suddenly it’s not and then a 2 week injury turns into a 5 week injury. And I don’t reckon there’s a huge difference between Motlop and the next man up, at this stage (maybe Durdin or Owies?). Hopefully by the end of the year, Motlop is good for 2 goals and 4 tackles but at the moment Owies and Durdin are ahead of him on tackles and pretty close on goals. Honey is a step back but not by a huge enough margin to make a massive difference worthy of the risk.

I am a bit concerned Richmond will be too slick for us. Our ball movement against Sydney was very slow. This allows teams to set up their defence and the Richmond backs like to pick off those long bombs into the forward line. They will get plenty of those. I wish our mids would lower their eyes a bit more when going forward.

Hopefully the game style against Sydney was an aberration and a more attacking fast moving game plan will prevail.

Go BLUES.

If the mids did happen to lower their eyes, they’d see that there’s nothing but grass and defenders in that 40-80m zone.

Our half forward strategy is either failing or nonexistent.
