That is big news.

Something serious has happened, given he's only 26yo and an Premiership player.

He still had 3-4 years of footy income.

He's been a footy nut from 6 years of age. Not blessed with the skills of plenty of kids who have been overlooked, he got to the AFL with 100% commitment and doing more than anyone else. Had sprint coaches, home gym, fitness coaches etc as a junior and he applied his total life to them. He left no stone unturned to get an opportunity in the rookie draft.

So to be a 3 time premiership player with the limited ability he has is a huge credit. But that fanaticism burns you out and I'd suggest that's where he's at. Recently married, a very close family who all work in the family business. It's time for other stuff. Congratulations to him. He's achieved far more than thousands of players who have significantly more ability than him. but there's none with more determination.

I know nothing about him but if that’s what it is then that’s a great story.

Great to see people knowing when it’s time to move to the next phase rather than have it thrust upon them.

Life is more a smorgasbord than a feast.

Ash Barty salutes him!

Int: Kennedy Newman Silvagni O'Brien (Martin)

I've got it something like this:

B: Newman Young Gov
HB: Doc Weiters Saad
C: Acres Cripps Cerra
HF: Fish Charlie JSOS
F: Motlop Harry Martin
R: Pitto Hewett Kennedy
I/C: LOB Cowan Owies TDK Sub Hollands
EMG: Ed, Cincotta, S.Durdin, Carroll
Would have C. Durdin ahead of Owies if fit. Wouldn't have an issue if S.Durdin was selected ahead of young. Cincotta a little unlucky but he will get opportunities sooner rather than later. Also no issue if Hollands came into 22 at expense of LOB.

Not sure about having Pittonet, TDK, SOJ, Harry & Charlie in the same team - but I get the feeling it’s happening.

B: Newman Young McGovern
HB: Saad Weitering Docherty
C: Acres Cripps LOB
HF: Fisher Charlie Motlop
F: Owies Harry SOJ

R: TDK Hewitt Cerra
Inter: Pittonet, Kennedy, Hollands, Cowan
Sub: Cincotta/Carroll

I don’t have confidence in Martin or C.Durdin being ready, but I get the impression they are prepared to throw in McGovern despite no practice matches.

Unavailable from our best 30:
Walsh
Williams
Martin
C.Durdin
Cunningham
Marchbank
Boyd
Cottrell

I know not everyone agrees with me, but I think that’s an unacceptable number of unavailable players for round one. When you consider what happened last year, it’s very disappointing to have such a list before the real thing has even started.

E.Curnow, Dow (inj?), S.Durdin, Fogarty (inj), Honey, Philp (LTI) & Plowman are our depth…..sigh. Yet we could afford to give away Setterfield & Stocker for nothing? Sure.

Anyway. Go Blues!

We've had supposedly the worst run in the comp with injuries and the blame appears largely placed on the club medical staff.

But you guys still want to play McGovern and Martin with a history of soft tissue injuries and no pre-season hitout?

B Newman Young Plowman
HB Saad Weitering Docherty
C Acres Cripps Cerra
HF Silvagni De Koning Owies
F Curnow McKay Motlop
R Pittonet Kennedy Hewett
INT O'Brien, E.Curnow C.Durdin Cowan (Fisher sub)

Can't see us getting near them, given what I've seen the last 2 weeks. Just seem way behind opposition teams when it comes to ball movement.

Don't disagree re Martin in particular. If we had close to a full list to choose from, I wouldn't have him in the side. Not convinced C.Durdin will come up.
Until a couple of weeks ago, Gov was participating in full training and by all reports was one of our best in the intra club we played. He is also far better than any alternative. Assuming he is fit, very comfortable him playing round 1.

Agree, I have a feeling we are in for a disappointing year.

I reckon we'll build up nicely as the season progresses. It's going to be a rough old start though, won't be surprised if we're 0-2.

Been a pretty terrible preseason.

I would be shocked if we are not 0-2.
Do any other clubs have long injury lists like we do?

If I were betting, I'd say we'll be 0-2.
I'm hoping we can square the ledger by magic round, or gather round or whatever the round in SA is called

Tad concerned for a number of reasons...

- the dilemma about whether Pitto TDK and SOS all play, will we stuff this up and backfire on us?
- dilemma about picking talented players who haven't played a practice game so McGovern and Martin and maybe Durds and Glassbank, as above will this blow up in our face?
- dilemma over whether to play one or both of Hollands and Cowan... is Hollands despite his talent just not physically strong enough ?
